for the first few weeks dont shave. Buy a beard trimmer! and when it looks extreamly untidy try going over the whole of it with the same number. I keep a natural line on my throat as i belive this looks better, by that i mean dont try to make a beard edge just let it grow where it wants. you are going to look untidy for a while just keep with it. Isn't nature strange with edges, because it makes symmetrical edges around my beard.
Everybody asks me: "How do you do that?"
I used to tell them the truth: "Oh, it just grows that way."
But they looked at me suspiciously, and wouldn't believe it.
So now I tell them: "It takes me hours in the morning with a clipper."

But whoa, surely you can't grow a beard with a trimmer?
That's the fist thing I was told:
Head - clipper/trimmer
Beard - scissors, but not for 4 weeks.

The timmer helps to take it back and help the rest grow at an even lenght. for some people growing a beard is an easy process but for alot its a tricky itchy ordeal lol.
I never cut my beard with sissors perhaps halfly because electricity has bought us away from that lol and i cant imagine how you'd get it an even lenght unless thats the look your afer
