Well, I am really into Genesis music at the moment - still discovering all their stuff

I also love Tony Banks (keyboard player from Genesis) solo stuff - he writes some beautiful lyrics and of course his keyboard playing is excellent. He's also in my avatar

I can't list all the songs I like cos I'd be here all day, but I recommend 'Another Murder Of A Day' which Marilion (Fish) sings lead vocals on.

This is link to the song on youtube, hopefully it worked - www.youtube.com...

Nice thread. It's always good to spread music. I enjoy all kinds of music but mostly bands from the 80's and 90's there are a lot of exceptions of course though. And in this is era Hip-hop, Indy, Punk, Ska and Reggae.

Genesis is awesome!!!!!!!!! If you like Tony Banks, might I suggest a song called "Firth of Fifth"? It's my favourite song by Genesis. "Supper's Ready" would be a close second! (all 30 minutes of it haha)

The Killers and Muse are both amazing! I don't know too much about those other bands, but I HAVE heard of all of them at least. Does that count?

My favourite band is Rush. If I had to pick a favourite song by them,it would probably be "La Villa Strangiato".
Other bands I love include: Iron maiden, Metallica, Boston, Van Halen..

Weezer - Undone (The Sweater Song) www.youtube.com...
Danko Jones - Code of The Road www.youtube.com...

Danko Jones kicks some major ass!!

Hi

Cool, a fellow Genesis fan, nice to meet you

I just discovered Firth Of Fifth recently - we don't have all the albums yet but we have the Genesis Songbook DVD and on it, Tony was demonstrating a bit of piano that was on that song and I thought it sounded lovely so I hunted the song on youtube and yes, it is a lovely song.

And Supper's Ready - excellent
I can't help but smile every time I listen to it.

........ A Flower?

I really can't pin down one favourite yet - one of my favourites aside from above is Afterglow (best listened to in full on the Wind and Wuthering album by listening to Unquiet Slumbers and In That Quiet Earth - all three songs blend into one another. That's an epic).

And I just love A Trick Of The Tail and Ripples. Love the videos for them too

Oh, and my bestest ever discovery of a Genesis song
is 'Shepherd' - unreleased from 1970 - earliest known recording of Tony singing lead vocals (Peter sings the verses and Tony sings the choruses).

Er... I'll stop now before I mention every single Genesis song I've ever heard.

I used to only listen to 3 bands really...
Led Zeppelin
Guns N' Roses
Metallica

Mostly because back in highschool, being able to play those songs on guitar makes you feel like a guitar god.

Then one day, when I was in... a different state of mind shall we say, I listened to the song Lateralus by Tool.

I then listened to the whole album (also titled "Lateralus"), and my mind was forever blown.

Now Tool is pretty much all I listen to on my own, and seeing as how I have been currently migrating from guitar-playing to drum-pounding, Tool is all the more awesome to jam out to.

I listen to a lot of Scandinavian folk-revival, progressive folk - I'm not sure an exact term/genre has been given a firm acceptance, but many of these bands have a very high level of musicanship, and are simply good. For me, songs sung in a different language are not a problem.

A partial list:

Varttina (they did the music for the stage production of LOTR, many vids on Ewetube)

Vasen (their record company, Northside Digital, promotes them as The Best Band in the World)

Loituma (simply a delight, and they did that internet hit Leva's Polka)

JPP (finnish fiddle band - if you like fiddle music, oh yeah!)

Hoven Droven (Swedish half folk and half rock band, not to my tastes but they're awesome)

Hedningarna (they knock my socks off)

Groupa (good, very good, and the band's been around a long time)

Wimme (Sami joiker, sometimes sounds like a native American, and maybe not too far off)

Uffda!

Of course, I have to mention the 3 Mustaphas 3, my personal nominee for the title Best Band in the World. Without 3M3, bands like Gogo Bordello would not have been possible.

I hearily recommend that you sample this music.

Interesting to see that name..

Some of my favorites from that area are Manegarm - "Urminnes Havd" (specifically that album)

Echo of Dalriada - "Jegbonto"

and just some others from other "genres."

Keith Merrow

Cave In (at least one of their "phases")

Gillian Welch
