5.0 Earthquake near Newman Australia

Hello ATS,

This is my first earthquake thread so im sorry if this is a non story.

There has been a 5.0 Earthquake 20km from Newman in Australia. I am only posting this because it is relatively shallow and i thought shallow earthquakes can cause significant damage.

Newman has a population of 4245 so im hoping all those people are okay. Cant find anything on this.

Just as you posted this i zoomed in to turkey on the EDIS website and that is a LOT of quakes in a relatively short amount of time...a lot of 3s and 4s

foreshocks maybe??

What the hell kind of messed up place is this for an EQ of this size??????

well apparently earthquakes of this size in Austrlia are not very common

lol i live off the coast of Australia. Ill keep you posted if i see Jesus here.

I have lived in Newman for 15 years, we are a town of 8500 people. The earthquake was just after 4am and woke us up immediately. It lasted for between 10-15 seconds and was pretty scary! There is no damage in the town luckily, its just shaken a few people up!

Yes everything was shaken in our mining town as it was 4am all woken up - no damage as we are all in cyclone proof houses. Its the talk of the town - but we are all safe !

I live in Victoria an they have not reported anything about this.

I surpose it was rapture day for the poor ant that got squashed by the falling acorn from the earthquake.

I'm in Australia, haven't heard anything on the news about it yet.

Also, it's a nice day today. No red sky with fire and stuff yet

Newman is a Mining town on the edge of the Great Sandy desert 1100km friom Perth Western Australia. I have been here 21 1/2 years and this is the first time i have ever come across something like this here. It happened at 0403 this morning with the house shakiung and was very loud outside. Did not last long but was scary enough, woke us all up and my animals went skitzo...........

well im just glad nobody was hurt, and thats the main reason i posted this thread
