I as a American am not threatened by other countries as China or Unions like the EU rising to a super power. I dont see these as threats to the US, We are Chinas best customers so I dont really see why they would want to attack us. As for the EU though some people in those countries dont really like America that much right now I dont see them wanting to destroy America.

I would love to see a EU/ US/ China/ Private Co. four way space race in the future.

Somebody give this man the ATS member of the month award. Thanks for showing me that not every American is scared because of China, EU and other nations and unions that just want to improve their situation

International space race. We just need to make sure it's basically private held and not military, else they will start off in the space again
and private held all over the world it's probably a lot faster in development.

The Old Chinese government will have to die off so that their socialist oppresive leaders can be replaced by moderates and then we should watch out because their economy will go off like gang busters.

The main hope for world peace is for every country to join the USA, EU, Japan, etc in prosperty

There rising econmic power is not a threat but a bonus, business creates business. No one wants to bomb a country that they trade with.

Finnaly a thread without bickering over whose better but the search for world peace. I can actually see world peace becoming more and more of a reality now with U.S.A, Japan, EU, and China begining to leading the way.

Oceania, group of three atolls in the South Pacific Ocean, about one-half of the way from Hawaii to New Zealand

total: 10 sq km
water: 0 sq km
land: 10 sq km

about 17 times the size of The Mall in Washington, DC

Climate-tropical; moderated by trade winds

Tokelau's small size (three villages), isolation, and lack of resources greatly restrain economic development and confine agriculture to the subsistence level. The people rely heavily on aid from New Zealand - about $4 million annually - to maintain public services, with annual aid being substantially greater than GDP. The principal sources of revenue come from sales of copra, postage stamps, souvenir coins, and handicrafts. Money is also remitted to families from relatives in New Zealand.

That is my dream as well for humanity to live together in peace and work to improve the life of all.

But I do see the danger when current superpower do not respect the interests and feelings of other nations. I see the great danger in Taiwan Strait and Korea Penisula, simply because the two powers can destroy each other.

Hmmmm, When China gets to #1 does that means that it gets to be responsible for giving billions in foregn aid to countries that then bash them at every opportunity? Does that mean that it gets to play the role of world's policeman? Does that mean it gets to take the blame for all the world's ill's no matter if they caused them or not? Are they going to host the UN for a while? Are Chinese inovation and invention going to enhance the rest of mankind on any level approching what the US has accomplished in the last 50 years?

Yes? No? Sorry. All of that goes with the number one spot regardless of what the numbers say. There is a big difference between being an economic powerhouse and being a world leader.

Don't get me wrong, I would love for China to be successful because I know that for them to become successful, they have to become more like us and there is safety in that for everyone. My worry is that their social evolution isn't keeping pace with their economic growth. Until they surmount that particular hurdle, they will never be #1 in anyone's eyes but their own.

Rest assured that US will be the #1 for at least next 30 years, without major wars or destruction. But I do see the fear of US to lose the #1 spot and act idiotically. China want to better the living of all Chinese, and do not want war. But if anyone or any nation attacks the core interest of China, it will be destroyed, and be #1 no more. US and China should work together and respect each other.

As long as MAD is in place no one will destroy each other. MAD may change due to some events right now, if that happens then we should have fear for two giants going at each other.

I think Spider-Man said it best "With great power comes great responsibility" This should be the same for a Super power be it the US,EU or China.

I think any Super power should lead by example. Over 200 hundred years ago America tried something alittle different for the time a Democracy with elected officals. It worked well for the American people and other countries followed our example with there own Democracy.

Pericles, of Ancient Athens the cradle of democracy said

"Our government does not copy our neighbors, but is an example to them. It is true that we are called a democracy, for the administration is in the hands of the many and not of the few."

America has made mistakes in its history because it is far from perfect, but I think other future super powers should learn from the mistakes we have made along the way. Learn what we had that worked and helped our society. But also be aware of what did not work and try not to make the same mistakes we did.

Yeah I think it's best for the whole world if the US and China did work together. It would be great to see China get invovled with more world affairs such as heading major peacekeeping operations and all that. I feel that right now the EU is too complacent and sit around and do too much talking and not enough action and if China can fill the role the EU should be performing, I'm reckon relations between China and the US could be really good.

The United States contribution to the prosperity of the West in the 20th Century cannot be underestimated as they have led the way in many things. However, good does come with bad and the US has also made many contributions to making the world a place that should be much better for all mankind.

I hope that in a tripolar world of the future there will be real cooperation with eachother to bring poorer nations out of perpetual poverty and into prosperity. I believe this can only be done if the future superpowers share common beliefs: The US needs to reform its healthcare, welfare and education system and needs to get tough on the environmental issues and China needs to get rid of the gerontocracy that exploits the people and their rights as a citizen of this planet. China also needs to get tough on the environment, because if they start to be eco-friendly now, they can become an example to other economic powers on how to be green (i'm thinkin 30 years down the track ^^). I haven't really got much criticism of the EU, because they have Socially-Oriented free markets and governments and the Western EU nations do a good job with welfare, health and education. With EU money and trade going into Eastern Europe, in 30 years time the entire bloc will most likely be an example of how nations can cooperate together for the better. However, the EU needs to get tough on their space program and get in on a healthy competition or cooperation with US or China.

thanks
,

Dr Funk
