1.8 million in Games ticket frenzy

www.guardian.co.uk

More than 1.8 million people have tried to snap up 20 million tickets for the London 2012 Olympics, organisers have said.
…………………………………………………………
The opening and closing ceremonies were among the first sell-outs. Sports fans could pay up to £2,012 for the showpiece opening ceremony.

i have never been a fan of organised sports " extravaganzas " so my bias may be showing , but these numbers dont make sense to me

there are > 65 million UK citizens - bit only 1.8 million people from the entire world population want tickets ?

and £2012 for the opening ceremony ?????????????

thats a lot of money - never mind the " convenient " co=incidence - attend the 2012 olympics , pay 2012 GBP

The prices vary....for £20 - £2012.
I was looking at tickets yesterday....AA tickets for swimming are £450.

You can only buy 4 tickets ever...so if your a family of 5....tough luck 1 cant go.

The majority of the tickets were sold to sponsors etc. Theres probably less than a million for the general public.
