Seriously though, I heard at least part of the fleet was pulled out. Its hard to imagine none of Americas allies noticed a task force on their way to Pearl Harbour.

Enterprise (CV6) task group was returning from mission ferrying Marine Squadron to Wake Island - which was
prime target of Japanese. Island overrun on Dec 23 after epic fight

Lexington (CV2) was ferrying aircraft to Midway

Saratoga (CV3) on West coast of US

Ranger (CV4) - Atlantic

Yorktown (CV5) - Atlantic (would soon be transferred to Pacific)

Wasp (CV7) - Atlantic, teransferred to Pacific mid 1942

Hornet (CV8) - Norfolk, just commissioned, would be transferred to Pacific shortly

As relations between US & Japan deterioated, US military began reinforcing outposts Wake, Midway in case
war broke out . Which is why Enterprise and Lexington was out of Pearl ferrying aircraft to this important

bases
