Being as Obama has never held a job....and really, don't we all wish we could never have to work and end up being president?.....

But the Obama lack of experience eventually wears on the economy and everyone (including ubber liberals).

More candidates with business experience are making their statements, and people are intently listening.

From what little bit I know of Gary, I definitely like him more than most - aside from Ron Paul.

I need to check out his positions on a few topics I've got some concerns about, but he's got a pretty good record. More than happy to use the veto option liberally, left the state with a surplus, cut a lot of state government positions WITHOUT anyone losing a job (reshuffling?), and he's for ending the most recent american civil war - yeah, that war.

Much better than most of the other knuckleheads weighing in for 2012.

He's definitely not Bill Richardson.

It's interesting that New Mexico now has a female Republican as governor: Susanna Martinez. I thought she could not beat the Richardson political machine. But, lo and behold, the good people of New Mexico rose up and said, "No more." That ranks up there with Christie taking New Jersey.

People are talking up Gary Johnson. It was just a short spell ago he threw his hat into the ring in New Hampshire. Apparently what Gary Johnson is doing is emphasizing what people are looking for: a candidate with good business sense.

Gary Johnson built a company that employs a thousand people, so I heard.

New Mexico is a 'Legal Medicinal Marijuana' state. It may not be Old Mexico, but apparently the soil is just as good in New Mexico.

Hey, Val Kilmer toyed with the idea of running for governor of New Mexico. He wanted to legalize everything. There is a lot of filmmaking going on in N.M. But is seems that Kilmer decided to sell his ranch and go back to California. Or, at least the ranch is still up for sale.

For reasons that are somewhat amusing, New Mexico has a handle on the illegal problem. Even though the ACLU came through the state suing just about every police department in sight. I guess it was just that everyone waited for the ACLU to go back to New York.

New Mexico don't take no crap for very long.

No way is trump going to make things work mccain is a joke and ron paul tho i like him is way too old school. Vote this guy in then keep him for another term if he delivers by then Rand paul should have proved himself enough to run.

Agreed. Not a lot of experience with New Mexico, but I am disappoint that they keep failing to end treating adults like criminals on certain topics - but they come closer than most.

And yeah, when he left Big J they have over 1000 employees - starting out with just him alone. I'd like to find some more of his positions but info's a little scant (if anyone knows where to find his views on most things, I'd appreciate - the wiki pages don't have a political positions entry yet and his candidate site is not comprehensive).

I think my only KNOWN issue with him offhand is that - if I recall correctly - he agrees that the federal government should keep abortion legal (I'm with Ron Paul on this one - US government's got nothing to do with it, and the more complex an issue is, the closer to home it should be decided; give this one back to the individual states).

I do love this summary from The Hill's article mentioned on his wiki page - he's got a lot going for him:

"[W]hen he was governor of New Mexico: [Johnson] never raised taxes in eight years; cut over 1,200 government jobs without firing anyone; cut taxes 14 times; vetoed over 750 bills; was the biggest advocate in the country for school vouchers; started his own small business and became a multimillionaire."

If Ron doesn't run - and Rand doesn't step up in his place - I will likely be supporting Gary this time around.

Did you watch the vid I posted on this thread? Its what sold me on him
Sadly dont have any more info hopefully someone does.
Sad about the abortion issue if true I'm pro choice too still 99 out of 100 so far aint bad.
Ya I dont think Rand will run if he doesn't have too. Imagine if Gary got his dad to run has his VP it be epic. I dont think Ron has a chance at the Presidency but everyone would be behind him as a vice president. imo

+ stars all around keep this topic alive if you can and give it a flag if you think this guy would make a great president.

Some day New Mexico and Texas will be a United Territory with no need for Washington. We'll see if Arizona can clean up its mess and join in.

One day, a long time ago, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico was owned by one Mexican will a lot of horsepower under him. What goes around, eventually comes back around.

Before the twenty-first century is over, the map of America is going to look a lot different than it does today. Between major earthquakes in California and the New Madrid fault line that will widen the Mississippi River by a mile, time they will be a'changing. It'll be a more self sufficient society.

Why do you think so many liberals fear Mit Romney? The Mormons have shown how to live in spite of Washington.

Washington will one day be a good museum piece.

There's more happening in the desert than most people realize, or could even understand.

I take Gary Johnson as being a very, very interesting prospect.

I'd like to know more about where he stands on the issues. His website is pretty sparse, but some of his ideas sound pretty good. I live in New Mexico. He was the governor when we moved here, but I don't know much about him.

Yeah, I just checked it out and he does talk a lot of sense. Actually sounds like his views on some of my areas of concern are a lot like Ron's - not the government's business.

Sad about the abortion issue if true I'm pro choice too still 99 out of 100 so far aint bad.

Agreed. Big doubts you'll see anything more reasonable from anyone else though, short of the Pauls wanting to get fedgov out of it altogether.

I could DEFINITELY get behind a ticket with those two, but I think Ron's odds are a lot better this time around - he's got a load more name recognition, proof that he was right about things he warned about last time, and the conservative base is actually starting to give his ideas more credence as well.

Unfortunately, I've got my concerns as well. I remember the hatchet & burial job the media did last time around (and oh, does it still BURNBURNBURN me) and would not be surprised at a repeat. Also considering that most of our voters are knuckleheads that tend to focus not so much on ideas, consistency, and understanding as they do on how someone looks/sounds/talks...ugh.

Still, I'm hopeful that reality will slap everyone hard enough in the face that they might actually look at what matters as well as realize how very wrong we've been on a good many topics in the past. Not going to enjoy being part of the slapped party, though, since it's gonna be a VERY hard hit.

Thanks friend, be well.

The Government is not a business, it is a government.

Business...maximize profit ...Government ...Maximize the peoples welfare and opportunity.

Having businessmen running government is dumb IMO....scratch the surface of most US Boardrooms and you find some seriously greedy and heartless MFers...and I work in such a position as to deal with these folks on a semi-regular basis.

The difference here is that Gary Johnson was also two-term governor of New Mexico, and he did an excellent job of it that did a lot of good for the state.

As well, he thinks much more clearly and has better ideas than most politicians. If you don't think business men should be politicians, who would you prefer? Career politicians generally haven't worked out too well for us as yet.

nice find man! stars

"HIS RECESSION HAS FORCED FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES across America to make hard choices and limit their expenditures. We must now expect our elected officials to make the tough calls that will keep our government on a sustainable path moving forward. We must restrain spending across the board:

Revise the terms of entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, which threaten to bankrupt the nation's future.
Eliminate the costly and ineffective military interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan; limit defense spending to actions that truly protect the United States.
Stop spending on the fiscal stimulus, transportation, energy, housing, and all other special interests. The U.S. must restrain spending across the board."

nice easy to read this is just the first one the other two are just as sweet

keep this bumped if you want to save America this is your best chance.
Remember he's gotten a proven track record he does what he says
IMO he will be killed if it looks like he even has a chance TPTB cant rig the elections cause you all refuse to use their bogus Electrical voting booths.
Still if none of you will Ill gladly take a bullet for this man and Im Canadian XD

I see more and more astute business men and women coming to the fore, emphasizing the fact that Obama never had a job in his life, much less ran a corporation.

What a gig? Never had a job...and now he's president? Go figure, huh?

Whereas Gary Johnson built a successful corporation from the ground up.

Gary Johnson's a Classical Liberal that recognizes what matters because he has never been and likely never will become part of the political 2 headed monster that has taken over America. He's a self made man that knows social issues are not issues for government to deal with.

Honestly? I like the guy more than Ron Paul. Simply because Gary Johnson is a much more pragmatic individual, where as ideology wise Ron Paul does stand out; there's just no chance he could ever make it with how the media treats him.

Gary Johnson isn't well known at all, but if he is introduced to people (whether through the media or by his own hands, the later being more likely) he will throw the political machine a screwball they can't hit. Ron Paul has managed to collect a large collection of the youth support for that little R next to his name, and Gary Johnson is capable of this 10 fold.

Basically, this guy actually has a chance. The Internet's power over information sharing as far as people using it more and more has elevated on magnitudes of power over what it was during the '08 election. Getting a pro-pot, pro-choice, pro-gay republican candidate will totally splinter the youth vote in this election if he utilizes the internet properly. He's not only the best looking candidate policy wise, but chances of him beating Obama are likely higher than any other republican candidate at the moment.
