Border Agents Confirming Feds' No-Apprehension Policy

www.foxnews.c om

An Arizona sheriff says he has been flooded with calls and emails of support from local and federal agents who back his claims that the U.S. Border Patrol has effectively ordered them to stop apprehending illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexican border.

“Upper management has advised supervisors to have agents ‘turn back South’ (TBS) the illegal aliens (aka bodies) they detect attempting to unlawfully enter the country … at times you even hear supervisors order the agents over the radio to 'TBS' the aliens instead of catching them,” one San Diego border agent wrote in an ema

In a way to me, this makes sense. Why arrest them then jam up our system with more people who will only end up being sent back to Mexico while the tax payers pay for their time while in custody. The "turn back south" order makes a heck of a lot more sense then the US housing the illegals and giving them free meals, free medicine, medical care etc. I believe Fox should be celebrating this news rather than presenting it in the context of more policy failure on the southern border. This TBS policy makes more sense to me then what Agents have been doing.

Why then to guard the border at all?

It's amazing that the greatest country can't even build a decent wall to protect itself.

Thats part of guarding it. Turning them back rather than spending our tax dollars housing & feeding them after and while they arrested.

Humint1: I agree with your evaluation completely - I have never understood why we were bringing them to detention centers and spending tax dollars to do so. Many pregnant female aliens were hoping to be detained, enabling them to receive medical attention, and the possibility of their child being born on US soil. We have our own citizens that need assistance - when these people go through the proper channels of immigration - they, too, will have the same opportunity. Does seem odd that it is being criticized on Fox.

But then what's to stop them trying to get back across the border the next day, or the one after until they finally make it??

In Malaysia illegal immigrants get a mandatory one stroke of the rattan and are then sent back..
Maybe a bit harsh but it obviously works better than the US idea..

Its a useless battle anyway.

They can turn back the everyday migrant trying to run across but with standing orders to not intercept smugglers due to being outgunned and outnumbered it's only a matter of time before everybody and anybody coming North just uses force.

The whole thing is operated in such a way that sets up auto-fail across the board.

Why they bother to put peoples lives at risk and waste millions on accomplishing nothing at all is beyond me but par for the course as government goes.

Good question!

The answer woul dbe to reinforce actually guarding the border rather than trying to waste tax dollars on arresting them and providing the situation for anchor babys etc. Put more personnel to keep turning them away and to deal with those who are hard criminal types and cause problems.

otherwise you'd have to build a massive fence...And we all know how that turned out..

Isn't there anyway the government could exploit them before they send them back? At least get their secret family recipes for Taco Bell to use.

Think a little deeper on this issue, folks.

As has already been said by Washington officials, illegal immigration is down. When they use the arrest records to prove that, they can--and DID--use those arrest records to more or less to say, "no problem, they airn't comin' over like there were."

Not to mention that it saves money in a multitude of ways.

The ATF actually gave the drug lords ak-47s. Why in the world would a US Agency give the enemy weapons if they were trying to control the problem? Isn't it like adding fuel to the fire? Makes no sense!

I agree. Its all about maintaining the illusion that drugs are illegal and illegal immigrants are not welcome, while in reality the opposite is true. They want to destabilise america to bring in one world government because america is the strongest nation in the world and if she does not go down then no nwo. Its plain as day!

And drugs are ok if your in the loop, like the mafia, except with the government you cannot compete. They always win...john gotti knows first hand! Money=control and control=slavery! Drugs should not even be illegal imo--its more of a medical issue!

What about the mexican border patrol? Do they allow guatemalans and belizans free access to mexico or do they make their life a living hell???

If your an american trying to cross into mexico no problem at all, except you need to show some id and purchase mexican car insurance for the duration you plan to stay. Also I think you need to get a mexican visa for longer stays.

I saw an episode of "Border Wars" on Natgeo yesterday and turning them back is exactly what they did. The text on the screen said something like "These people turned around and voluntarily returned to Mexico". What I don't understand is, what will stop them from walking half a mile down the Rio Grande and just crossing in a different spot, and repeat until they don't get caught?

If there's no deterrent, it seems to be a failed policy to me. That show also said they were hiring and training large numbers of customs and border patrol agents. I think the whole organization and funding it receives is mismanaged. I think we could take some of the money we're using to hire more people, and use it to build better walls instead.

And "border wars" shows agents chasing people all over the place. There's a 60 foot wide easement at the border. That's not a very wide area to patrol. If they patrolled that 60 wide easement and looked for breaches in improved fences, the US could do a far better job of securing the border with fewer people and the same amount of money. And surveillance cameras mounted every so often along the fence could reduce the need for such frequent patrols.

Some of the new fences aren't much of a barrier, like this one in San Miguel, AZ:

www.msnbc.msn.com...

And if you don't believe the US can do a better job of securing a perimeter, just try sneaking into Area 51. That place also has a HUGE border because it's a very large facility. They use all kinds of technology to assist them in protecting that "border", some of which would help protect the country's borders too. Some parts of the area 51 perimeter don't even seem to have fences, just warning signs saying something like keep out or you could be shot, and agents that show up to apprehend people trying to cross past the signs, like this video shows:

What Happens If You Cross the Line at Area 51

Good point. I don't know that the rattan is the best deterrent, but there needs to be some kind of deterrent or nothing will stop them from just trying over and over again until they don't get caught, like you said.
Maybe turn them back on the first attempt, but only after taking their picture and fingerprints. If found on second attempt by comparing the photo to a database, raise the penalty for a second attempt, and raise it more for a third attempt.

Central and south american needs a revolution of its own. We are here complaining about america but if your one of the natives before the spanish conquistadors arrived, then your pretty much a serf for life. What the english did to the natives in the USA is give them land to live on reservations but in other countries they live with the rest of the population in a deminial way. Think of the caste system in india but without the dots on their foreheads.

You have to be of spanish decent to become a mayor, president or prime minister, a company executive, etc.

Then the catholic church with its oppressive ways forbids abortion, pre-maritall sex and divorce. Pretty much your a slave to the church and right wing government.

People have been trying to rise up for a long time with socialism and communism but america and europe have squandered their hopes.

And we continue wondering why loads and loads of mexicans cross the border illegally....hypocrisy much???

The Area 51 video makes an important statement; why can we (the US) place this caliber of protection against Americans who cross the line (literally in this case) on a military piece of land which is vast and undefined to those who approach it. Yet the consequences of allowing illegals to cross the Mexico/USA border unchallenged, undetected and on a regular basis has the potential to be devastating in terms of terrorism and other aspects.

Why can't the USA place the same caliber of border protection at the Mexico - US border as it does around Area 51?

I believe (my opinion) that the US & Mexico have some form of an agreement in place that allows for illegals to cross without too much security deterring them. No other country in the world allows for such an unabridged failure in it's border security.
