AP IMPACT: Asia nuclear reactors face tsunami risk

Associated Press= JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — The skeleton of what will soon be one of the world's biggest nuclear plants is slowly taking shape along China's southeastern coast — right on the doorstep of Hong Kong's bustling metropolis. Three other facilities nearby are up and running or under construction.

Like Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi plant they lie within a few hundred miles of the type of fault known to unleash the largest tsunami-spawning earthquakes.

Called subduction zones, these happen when one tectonic plate is lodged beneath another. And because the so-called Manila

While some of the reactors are already in operation a few are still under construction, you would think Japan would send a message about this process let alone the fact they have real chances of facing the exact same scenario due to subduction faults.

How is it those who have power over us and decide what, when, where,and how make such foolish decisions on our behalf with no reguards to our safety?

It's only been about 6 weeks since the Disaster in Japan and already we are seeing more of the same being done on the Coast of China with regards to Nuke Plants that is....

As i've said before, if we aren't careful, this planet will be a no go area.........

It is not just those areas susceptible to earthquakes that are at risk from Tsunamis..

My part of the UK (along with many other parts of the world including Japan) are susceptible to Tsunamis known as the MeteoTsunami..

The last MeteoTsunami that hit here was in 1929 and around 6m (20ft) high, fortunately it hit on a very low tide and so caused few deaths, which is why the nuclear plants around here have extensive Tsunami protection including massive Tsunami Bunds.

Other examples of MeteoTsunamis that have hit Southern England include, Fleet being hit by a wave front that is thought to have been a minimum 13m (42ft) above sea level in 1834. Lyme Regis, which was hit by one up to 9m (29ft) high in 1883, while Ilfracomb was hit by another 9m (29ft) high one in 1910 and the one in 1929 shows these are frequent events (as they are else where in the world)

Even outside the earthquake zones Nuclear power plants are still at risk of being hit by a massive tsunami, so I really can not come to a conclusion that there is any where safe to locate a nuclear power plant.
