ATS isn't about truth anymore...

I've had this suspicion for some time now, now of course this is a big generalisation...BUT... like most places the majority rules and the majority here on ATS aren't here to seek truth, or to challenge their beliefs, no they're here to validate their beliefs.

It's become a sad, scary fact that the majority here who sprout about their open mindedness are in fact closed minded and will not accept anything else besides their 'truth', and what better place to validate that?

Take this thread as an example, Inside info on comet Elenin (yes, you're being lied to), No substance, no facts and most likely lies and how many flags? 200+

Clearly this thread speaks to the majority I mention above so they flag the hell out of it because the OP validates their truths.


So the question begs...

Why won't people challenge their beliefs?

It's the very reason why I came to ATS, to challenge my beliefs, to see both sides of the story...you know being open minded?

So in closing, you're all a bunch of close minded sheep unwilling to leave your comfort zone.

And I'm over it.

Most people have their mind's made up. It's difficult for anyone to accept something other than what they feel is truth as truth. It's just human nature. I am sure there are a few people that come here that are open minded, waiting to draw a conclusion to some thought or idea. The good thing is, the debating between everyone allows the undecided to form a better opinion and possibly come to a conclusion. This site leads to more people questioning things, which is good for humanity. The more questions, the more answers will eventually manifest.

Im pretty surprised to see you getting disheartened like this Chad.

I enjoy reading your posts, at times they have conflicted with my own but that is the whole point.

This site is all about sharing experiences, information and opinions regardless.

You of all people know that this site has just experienced a massive intake of members, the majority of which are fresh off the boat of MSM education which makes people lean to certain extremes be it for or against a particular topic.

Cheer up chief.

Just because you do not get 200 flags and stars does not mean that your point is invalid, it might actually mean that your point is spot on the nerves of the majority mate.

To me it's about truth except for the things I'm knowledgeable in. In those things if we differ in opinion, I bet I know the truth and you are spreading disinfo. Welcome to my world.

your not alone in thinking this...it's like people crave the doom side to things..without even taking the time to investigate the source and data...that thread in peticular you mention is just amazing ignorance by the masses.

last i see it was 28 pages of absolutely nothing...just loads of people all convinceing themselfs there gonna die,with no credible evidence to back the OP claim,well i say credible..infact there is none what so ever..just his word.

hahaha...well said. I don't think I like the generalization that we are ALL close minded sheeple though. If someone gives me enough evidence to the contrary I would be willing to look at it. That being said, if it something that I have researched and come to my own conclusion rather than listening to someone else, I readily admit someone would be hard pressed to convince me otherwise...sometimes gov't documents are just as bad as Sorcha Faal.

Dear Chad, I am new to ATS and in the last few months I have come to respect your posts and I actively seek them in threads. I know your avatar as well as a few others and scroll through the pages to see if those people have replied. I may not agree with you but I am interested in reading what you have to say. I wanted to tell you do not let the appearance of ignorance discourage you.

Because? Well you are only seeing the *posters* and forgetting about those of us lurking around a thread. Many times I read what you have say and think "geez, that is a good point" and close the thread to move on to the next. There are so many threads posting in given day, I have to admit that I am guilty of NOT stopping to say "Geez Chad, you have a good point!" before moving on to read something else to read.

You are challenging a good number of us lurkers to think about something different... the sad part is some of us are not challenging you back or saying "kudos". The downside is that you do not know we are lurking there and so you only see those people who fanatically agree with the thread. And lurking are those who are less ignorant with a bad streak of procrastination... aren't challenging you at all.

So part of the problem is NOT a personal failing on your part. Instead it is a failing of some of us less ignorant lurkers who want to squeeze more reading in before we have to go bed or get to work. So, just remember... the lurkers are watching you!

See... you are challenging me again... to not procrastinate in posting and to even remember to give flags deserving people such as yourself.

I don't mean to make this about me, but as this reply is my first interaction on this site that I have had beyond just being an outside observer (I signed on ATS just to reply to this post!), I think that that fact alone adds a little more merit to what I've got to say...

I became such a big fan of this site many years ago because of it's ability to gather the many views and opinions on such ... uhm.. taboo matters, and would do so in a relatively civilized manner. I was never able to find so many educated opinions that were commonly backed up by some sort of "proof", leaving me feeling like I can make my own educated opinion and no longer feel like a blind follower of something someone says solely because I believe. The other sites usually would often leave me with a weird, tense, confused feeling. They all seemed so one-sided and everyone would just fight with each other. On ATS, it seemed both sides of the story were often professionally portrayed and in turn respected. But this trend does seems to be a fraction of what it used to be. And in retrospect, was probably fading even before I discovered this site.


Maybe a more positive way of looking at it could be this... ATS may not be able to offer you/me what it did in the past, but since then it has been able to offer way more to many more people. But I do completely agree with you despite not often agreeing with you in the past. Yeah that's right, I've read your posts and replies in the background for quite awhile now and gotta say that I freakin' love hearing the sound of reason when I get all too overwhelmed with excitement on some of the fantastical theories. At the same time, I like arguing the sound of reason when I can (I swear that it' not always right!).

Let's look at your "How long will it take until you realize you were wrong?" (I don't know how to link it so please forgive) thread... I thought it was brilliant. It wasn't saying anything other than not all theories can be right and you asked how one would take being wrong as there is a large chance that is the case, but instantly had people calling you names, getting angry and basically being weird in a way that only the internet seems to make people. That may have been a bit of your intent as you started with "This thread may grind some gears here", but still those reactions only prove the point you are making in this thread... the majority of those that interact on this site are indeed not opening their minds near as much as they could/should.

I have been hesitant to join, post stuff and make worthy replies for years because of such behavior. I don't want to be called a "disinformation agent" because I oppose someone's point of view. I don't want someone to debate an educated opinion with name calling or arguing over semantics, spelling and grammar. Don't get me wrong... when someone mixes up "their", "they're" and "there", it's hard to take them seriously, but that is not why we are here. We are [still] here to explore all options and to keep an open mind. So it seems that what was a majority is a now minority and it makes things more difficult as we have to sort through pages of useless replies and posts to find the worthy ones. But rest assured that yours and the other open-minded opinions on ATS are still being heard and very much appreciated. And probably even more so than when ATS was smaller and less.. uhm... proliferated with such nonsense, it may just not reflect in flags and such. But I'd hope that flags aren't the reason that you are here...

And with all that being said... don't bring yourself to that name-calling level. I understand where you are coming form, but the "close minded sheep" comment just makes everything that I just said a little redundant!

Funny thing is that whenever I've thought of joining ATS in the past, I would think that this topic would be something that I would talk largely about. And in doing so would thank those that keep putting forth the quality threads and educated opinions despite all the other garbage that gets in the way. So ... Thanks for your effort! Thanks to all those who contribute with such professionalism as we continue to strive for an open mind! If it wasn't for all of you, this site would be the same as all the other trash on the internet.

Friend, just because you don't research things like this, that does not make us all a bunch of close minded sheep unwilling to leave our comfort zone. Read up on the Sumerian stories of Planet Nibiru and the Annunaki, the ones who created humankind as we know it today. Nibiru comes every 26,000 years, whether you believe in it or not. Tell you what, when it stands in the sky for all to see, cry out in your loudest voice that it does not exist. Perhaps that will satisfy you.
