First we had the 26 year old in Tunisia who set himself on fire because a female officer took his vending cart, apparently that is much worse than a
male taking your cart. There are reports that they took the cart because he had no permit, there are other reports that say no permit has ever been
required, either way the whole thing stinks to high heaven.
Next we have a revolution in Egypt to protest among other things poverty and high unemployment. Apparently a young lady used social media to gather a
flash mob of 80,000 protestors, how these poor starving people were able to afford laptops, cell phones or internet access has never been established.
In addition the number of english language tweets coming out of Egypt is highly suspect.
The next domino was Libya where we saw footage of "rebels" dressed in US issue fatigues running away from every flash and bang headed their way. The
only footage I ever saw of these rebels was them running (and driving) away. Despite little resistance and overwhelming superiority in weapons and
tactics we are led to believe the Colonel is backing down. This farce also made popular the ridiculous phrase "boots on the ground" to help illustrate
our hands and feet off participation.
Now Syria is joining the party amid similar circumstances, there is an unconfirmed report of another person setting themselves on fire and I wonder
how something like that goes unconfirmed, that kind of thing usually draws a crowd.
If you look at the map all of these countries are right next to each other and they all face the Mediterranean Sea, four countries with long standing
leaders have revolutions and within six months the political landscape changes forever.
One last observation. If you draw a line along the coast of the Meditteranean from the top of Tunisia to the top of Syria it creates a shape that is
becoming familiar to many people, namely the upturned crescent moon.
