Not much more info at the minute I'm afraid. I will update as news comes in.

This explosion has taken place after several security threats from dissidents over the past few weeks. Northern Ireland is currently in the middle of an election campaign so the two are most likely connected.

We have been incredibly lucky that there has been no loss of life at this point, given the increasing activity of dissidents. IMO it is only a matter of time before one of these devices results in serious casualties, and death.

As this bomb appears to have been placed under a car in a residential area, I believe it was most likely a targeted attack on a member of the security forces such as the PSNI. These bombs are planted under the foot well on the drivers side usually using a Mercury tilt switch, so that when the owner drives off, the balance is altered and the bomb detonates, exploding up into the driver's seat.

Similar case from last year:

*Sky news reporting it was a member of the police service.

It's not looking good at the minute.

A police officer is in a critical condition after a bomb exploded under his car in Omagh, County Tyrone.

The device exploded under the vehicle outside his home in Highfield Close, off the Gortin Road, just before 1600 BST on Saturday.

Car and pipe bombs are used by the IRA, how ever they have not been active and u would suggestion looking into a splinter group or copy cat cell.

The Real IRA are and have been going to political route, how ever that doesn't mean a new generation of misguided and un affiliated losers wouldn't step in to fill the void.

Too bad the Brits just didn't give Northern Ireland back to the people, f'n British, about as bad as those greedy land grabbing Jews...
