Much like the infamous Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, this latest undertaking with the U.S. lacks transparency and thus far, Parliament and Congress have also been excluded from the whole process. While asking for feedback from Canadians is a step in the right direction, the measure falls well short of any national debate on the subject.

Meanwhile, the country has been thrust into an election with the defeat of the ruling Conservative party in a non-confidence vote. During the campaign, sovereignty concerns associated with the proposed trade and security deal could

Canada and the United States do have the longest unsecured border in all the world and it is true that there needs to be a certain amount of cooperation at the border. Continental integration is a perfect issue to provide cover for other nefarious things. This is all deeply disturbing. It's just incremental ism in Canada's loss of sovereignty. They signed the Security and Prosperity Partnership with almost no questions asked - now they're building upon it. The security agenda has a lot to do with the U.S. government being able to count on Canadian troops. PM Harper has Canadian jets bombing Libya and they have soldiers in Afghanistan. On the issue of the F-35 alone, the Conservatives should no be re-elected. Who the hell knows how the 65 fighter jets Canada has ordered will cost in the end. Sad thing is that MIchael Ignatieff also SUCKS!

This is the sad choice facing the Canadian people at present. Two US lap dogs to choose from. There seems to be no difference who we have elected over the years, we are slowly being sucked in to the corporatocracy that america has become.
As businesses have intertwined and grown more influential in goverments, the two countiries have both showed signs of being userped by corporate agendas to the detriment of their repsective peoples.
As a Canadian, i believe we will recieve no parity in any deal made with the US, and further we will have to give far mote value than we will recieve for this supposed secirty which is nebulous at best(nobody really hates us)
If anything they are after the great satan, US not us dumb cannucks

I see the Conservatives as our only option right now. I do not believe Ignatieff when he says he will not seek a coalition government, and fear he will join up with the socialist NDP and the traitorous Bloc Quebecois. The Bloc should in my opinion be banned from Federal politics and only be allowed to run for provincial elections.

You mention you do not like the Conservatives due to their involvement in Afghanistan. Do you realize that MIchael Ignatieff has advocated extending the Canadian mission in Afghanistan? And i quote:

[q]Prime Minister Stephen Harper called a vote in the House of Commons for May 17, 2006, on extending the Canadian Forces current deployment in Afghanistan until February 2009. During the debate, Ignatieff expressed his "unequivocal support for the troops in Afghanistan, for the mission, and also for the renewal of the mission." He argued that the Afghanistan mission tests the success of Canada's shift from "the peacekeeping paradigm to the peace-enforcement paradigm," the latter combining "military, reconstruction and humanitarian efforts together."[71][72][/q]

The source is his Wikipedia entry.

The Conservatives will get my vote. Ignatieff's popularity is sitting well under what the Liberal parties populatiry level is at, and the Liberals are well bellow the Conservatives. To call an election at this time is a waste of taxpayer money and is an excersize in futility. They will not win.

If American wannabe Ignatieff takes control... I suspect NAFTA and the NA Security Perimeter will be implemented within a decade.

Most of that has to do with Americans sneaking across the border to become recipients of Canada's "EVIL" socialized medicine. The US government doesn't want Americans to get a taste of it, because they might like it. It also puts a strain on Canada's health care system because the US citizens do not pay taxes for those benefits.

Here is where I take issue. Do you have any idea the shape of our current fighter aircraft? Did you know that before retrofitting the planes with new radar equipment, they showed up as enemy aircraft for 2 whole seconds to friendly craft? 2 seconds is a lifetime when you have missiles pointed at you.

Our military is in desperate need of upgrades. Ask any military member who happen to know if they think an increase in military spending is a bad idea. We spend 6 months in snow, our forces do not have winter cammo. Our helicopters are a joke, our subs are ridiculous, our planes are outdated. I would have preferred that they went with some new Russian planes, but NO PARTY in Canada would risk pissing off the US like that.

I am not a fan of the PC party, but there is not a single option that is any better. All the rest want to spend money we simply don't have. The Bloc wants $3bln to make up for HST? That is a provincial thing, not federal, why should we all be responsible for bailing out that welfare province? They should be tried and hung for treason and attempted sedition. The NDP want to crash our entire economy giving handouts to everyone that wants one. I believe in social responsibility, but not to that extent. The Liberals don't know thier ass from a hole in the ground, especially under thier current leadership. Ignatieff can't decide if he wants to be NDP or PC, and just ends up looking like a buffoon.

We have become too engrained with our southern neighbors. We need to start cutting the cords, not making more. Start divesting from the south and expanding our trading horizons. The less we are tied the US, the less it will hurt when they run out of money completely. Start trading more with Asia and Europe, create opportunities in Africa. The Americans can scoff at us all they want, we have the manufacturing and resource foundation to be a big player, but only if we sack up and start saying no to American companies. We need to start dictating the terms of use and trade of our natural resources before it is too late.

If we keep going the way on the path we are on, the integration of Canada fully into the US will seamless and the stupid masses will think it is the best idea ever.

Lol. Its funny. How the guy argues that a good program, (his take) was essentially undone by the fact that they were not forthcoming enough and openly engage the people in the nations involved.

Its the same argument I just made in a threat about internet cookies. If you dont want people to resist you or come up with the suspicion you are screwing them, dont sneak around behind their backs in the dark. Just the fact that you act without the knowledge and consent of people makes them distrust you when it comes out that that is what you are doing. '

And having lied by omission, its very difficult to them sell your program to the same people who now think you are a sneaky, disrespectful #, and who are justified in that belief because you were doing stuff behind their backs.

I just cant feel sorry for anyone who thinks a lack of transparency is ok in a democracy. It isnt.

You can't really have democracy unless you have transparency.

Funny, you guys have a Liberal that wants Canada to be like the US and we have a Liberal that wants the US to be like Canada. How about letting Canada have a real Prime Minister that wants Canada to be and remain Canadian? Why would Canada want to be like anyone else? Why can't you guys be uniquely Canadian instead of having politicians who want your country to be more like ours here in the States? We are two separate nations for a reason.

Slightly beside the point, but a compliment nonetheless....

Living at the front lines of the forced integration with Mexico, and with a narco-crime wave of epidemic proportions poised to explode in southern U.S. border states, I can say with no reservations that I'd much rather have you canucks across the Rio Grande from us.

Needless to say, hockey played at Latitude 27°30'N would most definitely suck, unfortunately.

Do we need to upgrade our forces? Yes.

Do we need to waste a crapload of money and time buying American fighters that don't even suit us? Nope. The F-35 contract is purely political. Tactically, we don't need 135million dollar, single engine, STOL fighters.. Eurofighters are a much better option.

With Baby Bush in power, it will happen anyway. The Conservatives are worse than the Liberals, but not by much. Gonna be a tough election for me.

ETA: Just read about Ignatieff's "Lesser Evil" philosophy. He is a Conservative in Liberal clothing. Looks like I am voting Green.

Isn't it great having a bunch of elected and unelected officials meeting in secrecy and making far reaching unconstitutional plans which are counterproductive to the General Public?

Also, isn't it funny that a political party which is in contempt of Parliament may get rewarded by upgrading to a majority? If so, it appears that "fixed elections" may be yet one more thing the USA and Canada have in common.
