Depositors Took Out $859M in Just 2 Days

Combined Reports Russians withdrew $859 million worth of rubles from banks on July 8 and 9 when a depositors' run peaked, the Central Bank's Deputy Chairman Arnold Voilukov said.

Of that amount, 20 billion rubles ($687 million) were withdrawn in Moscow and the rest elsewhere in Russia, he said. The number does not include foreign currency withdrawals and transfers of deposits to other banks.
