Danaides - the daughters who eternally carried jugs but never fill the leaky bath.

It is hard, if you've studied Greek mythology, to watch what is happening in Japan right now and not think of Danaus and Polyxo and their ill fated daughters.

Maybe it is because there is so much tragedy in the air. Maybe because the names of the nuclear power plants are so similar (Daiichi and Daini). Probably because the pouring tons of water from a chopper into a vat with a gaping 8 meter hole seems futile to the world that's watching.
