I saw this story on MSNBCís Keith Olbermann show. I was appalled by the manner in which Mr. Olbermann made fun of this guyís story. It was then that
it occurred to me how unconsciously arrogant/racist/xenophobic we have become in America. If this unfathomable abuse had occurred in America, I doubt
the story would have been spun as an object of amusement. It astonishes me that none of the writers, producers or Mr. Olbermann himself saw the
callousness and insensitivity of the angle they chose for the story. The whole thing left me breathless and ashamed. What have we become? Is it any
wonder we had a few soldiers behave badly in Abu Ghraib? This isnít about conservatism or liberalism. Itís about the abandonment of the core values
that made us Americans. I no longer believe the problem to be political, but rather cultural. Terrorists can destroy the material things in our lives.
They can even take away our loved ones. But who is responsible for destroying our values? Hint: It wasnít the terrorists.
