Hehehe... always good to help someone who shares my interests...
Keep in mind that this aplies to most anime series. Claymore is another excellent example. I highly recommend watching the series and afterwards reading the manga for the aditional content.
Except for Tengen toppa gurren lagan. They actually did things the other way around, first publishing the anime and afterwards drawing up a manga for it...

The way they decide to bring out an anime based on manga is actually what messes things up. Gantz the manga did good so they decide to do an anime adaptation. Then the anime didn't do very well so they cut it short (or didnt extent it, whatever works) but the manga keeps going since sales for it are still doing well.. Psyren for example is a manga wich was very popular in western lands but it didn't do so good in japan. Result is no anime adaptation and the Mangaka (writer) was actually forced to end the series prematurely, resulting in an ending wich simply doesn't give a whole lot of closure. Still Psyren is an awesome story.

1. Fullmetal Alchemist
Yeah, that was my number one anime for a long time. It was the first real anime I ever watched actually.

2. Death Note
You really think FMA is better than DN?

3. Fullmetal Panic
I've seen a few eps of that, it looks pretty promising.

4. Inuyasha
I actually have that but haven't watched it yet, you reminded me actually, I might watch that.

5. Hellsing
I definitely want to get that anime next, another good pick.

6. School days
Seems like it may be ok, it's now on my list.

1.Haha, yep dude, in my opinion, FMA is better than DN
. FMA has deep story and its a mix of every anime genre, which makes this anime unique. Everything is balanced and story is simply epic. Haven't watched Brotherhood though, only first anime, which wasn't following manga story and had a different ending.
FMA:B follows manga story, right? I might watch that one day
.

2.DN is epic, but I dont really think it deserves to be n. 1. Yes, it has good animation, story, and everything, but FMA is better in every aspect.

3. FMP is awesome
, it was along with Inuyasha my very first anime. I watched them both at the same time (they used to go on one TV Channel). It is funny, it has mechs, nice fights and funny characters, mainly protagonist
.

4. Inuyasha is pretty good, it isnt scary, but its more like a history/fantasy comedy. Story isnt really that good, but its very long. Not sure if they finished it already, when I watched it, they were still working on episodes (I guess I was on 5th or 4th season, not sure, but it was last)

5. Hellsing is awesome. Lots of blood, good horror atmosphere. Only con is that it has only 1 season (or it had at the time I watched it).

6. Its all right. Quite perverted
. Story takes really "nice" turn, mehehe. I wasnt really expecting that.

I don't watch anime anymore, so... my top 10 from the time anime was good is:
- Gundam 0079
- Gundam 0080
- Shinkou Gattai Godannar!
- Macross Plus
- Tenchi Muyo
- Macross Frontier
- Ideon
- Captain Harlock
- Sailor Moon
- Cowboy Bebop

I'm a mecha girl, There's more mecha and not mecha series I like, but this ones are the significant ones.

And I agree with one of the guys before me, the 90's Cashern is PURE GOLD. Great series.
