There's lots of speculation going on over the fast-breaking events in Egypt -- but Director of National Intelligence James Clapper's claim yesterday on Capitol Hill that the Muslim Brotherhood is "largely secular" and has "eschewed violence" doesn't need to be speculated upon.

The Brotherhood has not only described itself as an Islamist group, committed to implementing Sharia law, it spawned Egyptian Islamic Jihad -- which offed Anwar Sadat in 1981 and later joined forces with Al Qaeda. Another Brotherhood offshoot is Hamas, the terrorist group that holds Gaza in its bloody grip. It's no fan of the Camp David peace accords with Israel, either.

Sounds like Obama administration is all over it as usual!

If Mubarak is an American puppet and the US is controlled by zionist Jews one has to ask why does Israel want
civil unrest in Egypt? Could it be that this is just the beggining of the destabilisation of the Middle East? Seems plausible considering the article from the OP.

Also the only way Israel can fully regain Jerusalem and acheive their ideological goals would be through a war against all the Arab nations.

I think it's relatively doubtful.

Somehow, I have always come away with the impression that any rational analysis of the ATS community would determine that we are not threatening the status quo.

We have an explicit policy of not accepting activism and proselytizing in any regard that excludes a classical free forum concept. This is to say that while at times we may overwhelmingly agree about the folly or offensive nature of particular policies, we do not exclude from the dialog the counter position. The CIA needs to focus on those forums that are strictly polarized. And frankly, they do have their hands full (which is not to say they couldn't be doing a much better job - but there is a reason for that.)

The reason?.... Because, in my humble opinion, I think the CIA is not really a "national" agency. Their known conduct seems to bely that notion. I would say that they are - in practice - (or "de facto," as one Egyptian diplomat said recently) a corporate intelligence agency and paramilitary operation.... not very unlike Xe (Blackwater) among others. In the past their operations (overwhelmingly) have caused the most intense and dangerous hatred for the country.... do you think a government agency would endanger her citizens for the benefit of corporate empire? No. By definition, the agency has behaved as an 'agent' of interests 'other than' national security. Adding political theater into the mix just makes it 'appear' as if tax-payers should be paying for CIA enterprises and ventures. But in the end, we seem to prop up who ever serves our purpose, and we interfere with those who don't join the game plan. Ethics aside, the CIA has issues.

The CIA is manned by many people... some patriots, some entrepreneurs, some lost souls, some geniuses, some mild (or severe) sociopaths.... just like real life (go figure).... as such it can only be inferred that the inadequacies are a function of poor or nonexistent management... or, heaven forbid, a callous disregard for the nation, in deference to ... other interests.

The fact that they were caught "unaware" (and by extension we were) was because it was not part of their leadership's agenda. Resources were not 'engaged,' which is not to say they were just living the good life in Egypt, fat, dumb, and happy. They were probably myopically focused on all things Al Qaeda and the theater of 'necessary preemptive war.'

Perhaps this sounds too 'out there' for some.... I hope I haven't caused offense.... There are handful of people who foster this paradigm in there... most of them do what they are supposed to.
