Did you make a thread about this (?) ... because I'm from North Yorkshire and sometime in January there was a thread by another York ATS member
reporting this too.
I replied in that thread to say that I'd also seen exactly what the OP describes the same night as the member mentioned in the other thread (it was
also witnessed by my son who is very sceptical of this sort of thing but reluctantly agreed that it was not a plane ... and stars don't move about
like this did) ... and I'd previously seen the same thing with a friend on 13th October 2010, when we'd both watched it for over 20 mins ...
initially it had looked like a huge star (bigger and brighter than Sirius) in the south ... then it grew smaller and I thought it was going to
disappear (clear nights no clouds on both occasions) ... instead it started to flash red and grew back to the original large size then started to move
across the sky to the west ... reached a certain point ... stopped for a few seconds before returning to it's original point ... it repeated this
twice in the 20mins we watched it.
Then after the 20mins it became small again then just vanished (as I said it was a clear, cloudless night on both occasions)
