Sorry, this just cannot go without a thread. California one of the worst off states in the US, over $500 Billion in debt, states that they have to raise taxes due to.................................EGYPT! Hey California, suck it up, you are the ones that elected project Moonbeam!

HEHEHEHEHE, due to Egypt, we have to raise taxes!

Citing the pro-democracy unrest in Egypt and Tunisia, Gov. Jerry Brown called it “unconscionable” that GOP legislators are vowing to block his attempt to ask voters to extend tax hikes to balance the budget.

“When democratic ideals and calls for the right to vote are stirring the imagination of young people in Egypt and Tunisia and other parts of the world, we in California can’t say now is the time to block a vote of the people,” Brown said in his first State of the State address in nearly 30 years.

Hey, maybe he is worried about the marxists and foreign nationals entrenched in the state. Hmmmm, quite the predicament, either raise taxes on the productive and give that money to the unions and illegals, or cut the benefits to the unions and the illegals. Do you think Moonbeam is worried about a revolution?

Hey, how bout not pander to the special interests. Who is the special interests again? Oh that would be the teat suckers. California is heading for a Greece or Egypt type problem really soon. Hmmmm, do you think it would be a good idea to leave the sinking ship or just rearrange the chairs?

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I'm waiting for the commies and "handoutters" to start their riots and their "revolution" because they're not being given my hard earned money through government decree. Sorry folks, my family suffered enough under the commies in Cuba, and I'll not see these same scum bring down the US through social engineering and taxation..I'm not surprised that this moron is using the crisis in Egypt and the whole of the ME as an excuse, he knows his "Social Justice" buddies overseas will be bringing the ruckus here soon.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Good ole Jerry.

You know, I have some personal knowledge about this man, he used to have dinner with my neighbors.
Thats all I am going to say, aside from the fact that he deserves his nickname.

Thanks for the comments folks.

I think I am going to find a relevant photo to go along with this.

So let me get this straight, his idea is to raise taxes on the job producers in a state with an ‘official’ unemployment rate of 12.5% so that he can lower the state debt of $88,773,113,875 not to mention the this report from Moody’s which only adds more debt to the state.

I seem to recall reading that in LA County, California alone $600 million was spent on welfare for children of illegal immigrants, this is not including public safety and health care costs which would add up to be $1.6 billion in Los Angeles County, California alone.

Do not forget about the 1.85 million illegal workers in California, about 10% of the workforce.

How about California being the worst state for businesses in 2010?

California is a ship sinking fast but could save itself, although I do not foresee that happening. With a governor, state legislator, local municipalities, and city governments more than willing to ramp up taxing, regulating, and spending, I do not think California is salvageable and I can only hope at this point that Congress does not give the states an easy way out of their mess and rip everyone off in the meantime. The whole ‘state bankruptcy’ idea is horrible and is just another way to let government leave the people and businesses stuck holding the bag.

I seem to recall a President who managed to cut taxes and drastically raise revenue, revolutionary idea in this modern Socialist hellhole I know.

His tax and debt reduction are a point of pride:
• National debt of $22.3 billion in 1923 lowered to $16.9 billion by 1929.
• Federal expenditures (budget) of $5.1 billion in 1921 were reduced to $3.3 billion in 1929.
• Cut taxes four out of his six years as president.
• Cut effective tax rate on the wealthy was 50 percent (1922) to 20 percent. Revenue from that tax bracket then rose from $77 million to $230 million.
• By 1927, 98% of the population paid no income tax
• Tax burden on those making under $10,000 fell from $130 million in 1923 to under $20 million in 1929.

Like Projectvxn, I too had family which fled from Communism to America. Unlike most some of my family was lucky enough to escape Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1856 and join with their family already here in America which too escaped from Hungary just before WW1. Communism was not something they celebrated and they wanted nothing to do with Marxist ideology for a reason.

Also from you one linked article, the $600 million does not include everything-

Antonovich arrived at the estimate by factoring in the cost of food stamps and welfare-style benefits through a state program known as CalWORKS. Combined with public safety costs and health care costs, the official claimed the "total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers" was more than $1.6 billion in 2010.

"Not including the hundreds of millions of dollars for education," he said in a statement.

Read more: www.foxnews.com...

So for just one county, the cost is $1.6 billion. You know I read an article stating that the government is purposefully allowing unrestricted immigration to bring down the US. I am finding that to be more likely everyday. Especially now with the government purposefully not allowing us to use our own resources.

US=Egypt shortly?

I think you may want to re-read what I had wrote because I didn't miss that part:

But otherwise yes I do agree with you however I do not believe US will be like Egypt soon because it appears the Republicans keep going further and further down with their cuts. First it was $50 billion, then $30 billion, then $18 billion, now who know, nothing!

Well maybe we will be like Egypt when everything collapses instead of us just having to face some austerity.

Derr, missed that part.

But, the last I heard is that Ryan is at $85 billion. The other numbers are not from Ryan. I agree though that is like peaing in the wind.

BUT, Ryan is not the only one making suggestions. Hopefully others will convince them that the number he is suggesting will not get it done. All we need is to get our debt downgraded and there will be no way to recoup the interest rates.

Oh well, it is getting interesting.

I see a sure fire way of Calif not only recovering their debt money, but turning a very healthy profit to boot.

The simple solution is to decriminalise Cannabis state wide.

Follow the Dutch example (and other Euro zone countries) and open up coffee shops.

With California being the only state to do this, millions will flock to the state either as weekender trippers (no pun), or on a more permanent basis, many electing to open related businesses.

The state government will make an absolutely unbelievable amount of money, through increased tax receipts and the new wealth entering into the state.

Plus, as a bonus millions will be saved on trying to police useless laws, and the savings due to decreased crime levels.

They only estimated they could make $1 billion per year. What are they going to do with the other $28 billion next year. And then the following year it balloons to I think I read $48 billion.

The debt that California has accrued is going exponential. I do not think they can get out. With the government employees and the other outlays, California is sunk.

I read one article written by an accountant that California is going to be insolvent within 3 years even if they begin taxing at astronomical levels. They are toast.

Oh well OP, according to Moonbeam, all they have to do is raise taxes at this point. Supposedly, they eliminated 10 billion in spending. He never actually stated what he cut, but he gave a number!
