GOP suspending all legislation votes! To go against the second amendment?

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said all legislative action "is being postponed so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy."

So we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy? Whatever actions necessary? Like banning guns perhaps? Or banning concealed carry? Even if the Supreme Court says it's unconstitutional?

I wouldn't be surprised from this totalitarian one party government.

Hopefully it's just empty rhetoric... but seriously suspending all legislation votes for this ... really?

I don't think that's the reason. I suspect that he's doing it to give Arizona's representatives a chance to go back home and attend services and such for those that lost their lives.

Politics as usual. If they think they can stop doing the job they are already doing poorly for this reason, they are sadly mistaken.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions, necessarily. They need to make sure this guy isn't part of some larger group who might target more congressmen/women. They need to give time to congress people who know her to grieve, they need to discuss security issues both at the Capitol and give time to individual members to evaluate their personal security and plans.

In short, when 6 people are killed during the assassination of a sitting U.S. Congress member, don't expect them to just shrug their shoulders, and continue on as normal. This is a huge shock and direct attack on our elected representatives.

That's not a very pleasant thing to read before bed.

Either it's poorly worded and wholly benign and they just mean mourning and services and such or they're ready to go full throttle down the totalitarian highway in lieu of the scenic biway they are now going down.

Unsettling to say the least.

If you want to get all sappy about it, then politicians need to show something more than mere grieving, such as solidarity. It's the same thing from top to bottom. Instead of sappy grieving and whining on 9/11, we should have shown solidarity. We should have shown courage in the face of adversity. All this does is show the politicians to be the cowards we all know them to be.

As Rahm Emmanuel said, never let a crisis go to waste. That's what these bottom feeders do best. While what happened is a tragedy, the lives lost are no more important than the others lost all across the nation who didn't make the front page of Drudge.

Carolyn McCarthy readies gun control bill

One of the fiercest gun-control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday targeting the high-capacity ammunition the gunman used.

Loughner legally purchased his weapon – a Glock 19 with an extended magazine – from an Arizona store. The same kind of extended magazine was illegal under the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

AND WILL BE INTRODUCED AS SOON AS MONDAY... TODAY.

Yeah never waste a good crisis to kill the constitution is their mantra after all.

People better get back to reality, politics have always been dirty business in the US. If you just look at the Bush/Gore campaign, even if they are working for the same people... during the cold war saying that the other candidate would lead the US to nuclear war/destruction... the different races in the senate and congress, calling the other a pedophile, ect... plenty of reason of some nut on the other side to go shot the other candidate.

Guess what, politics is a dirty business, always has been, probably always will be.

So taking advantage of the situation to make everyone afraid to talk about real issues so no one will go shoot the other guy or being arrested is freaking sick.
