ATF instituting emergency long-gun sales reporting

...the ATF requirement calls for firearms retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days.

Kind of came out of nowhere.

So if you were planning on picking up a couple of rifles so you and your son could shoot silhouette or yoiu and your wife could enter cowboy action matches or you just wanted a 24" bull barrel AR for that new 1000 yard range and figured on grabbing an extra stripped lower while you were there because the shop has them for $99 you just got yourself reported to the ATF as a special "emergency" case.

The excuse is straw purchases. Like every other law on the books this wouldnt do anything to prevent them. Just create a 5 day delay in the time the buyer got his hands on the straw purchased guns. In the meantime you and I get put on lists.

Multiple sales reporting for long guns is an ill-considered mandate and one that ATF does not have the legal authority to unilaterally impose. In fact, ATF has not specified under what legal authority it presumes to act.

Cant wait to see if this flys. If it does then we'll know the gov doesnt need any law or bill to enact gun control. Just will and force.

Good lord! More, more , more - that's all the government wants. More control, more information, more taxes. It would be nice if the people had any say left in our own government. Good thing that illusion is wearing off fast. S@F

Im not totally convinced that they dont already know exactly what you have...Your FFL has to call the govt to see if youre able to purchase to begin with...they say they dont save names from that but they say alot of things that arent true

If they wanted to sart rounding us up tomorrow itd be pretty easy to know the ones they have to send a squad for...Look for gadsden flags and pro gun bumper stickers

You need to look at the rules for cowboy action matches.

This new reporting is just one of a string of slowly added rules to limit gun sales.

They know that over time they can put a lot of these rules in without congress having to pass new laws.
