I have to ask - Whirring sound in head?

I have been having a similar sensation for a long time, and finally got fed up enough to look it up, stumbling upon this. I have a mechanical whirring in my left ear almost all day. It lasts for hours on end, and I used to think it was from my headphones which I wear often (I am on my laptop often), but I hear it in other places too. It's not pulsating, it happens times other than when I'm sleeping or laying down, and nothing here seems to be what is happening for me. If I try to listen to something else, I still hear it. This is a very late post, but I am looking for an answer. A response would be great!
