The reserve of available Internet addresses will be used up around the world in January, warned experts based here.

Internet addresses are distributed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which provides them to five regional organizations around the world.

"The pool of central addresses will be used up in January," said Ernesto Majo, communications director for the Registry of Internet addresses for Latin America and the Caribbean, a Montevideo-based non-profit organization.

Good bye IPv4 and welcome IPv6 yep, the IP address with the assigned names and numbers is going to run out come January. we know it was going to happen but what really is going to happen when all the addresses actually do run out ? besides the switch to IPv6 even though we can register billions of new IP addresses, but one issue is why can't they let the older ones go, like those that have been around since 1995 and haven't been updated?

With IPV6 every 3 square feet of the milkway gets an IP address. No more broadcasts either with IPv6... only multicast, anycast, and unicast.

so when the time comes will the internet be shut down for a few days to let a transition go through, but you know what may probably happen. Net Neutrality.
