Researchers Find Mathematical Patterns to Forecast Earthquakes

"Using mathematical techniques, we have found patterns when medium-large earthquakes happen, that is, earthquakes greater than 4.4 on the Richter scale," said Francisco Martínez Álvarez, co-author of the study and a senior lecturer at the UPO.

This is pretty amazing.

I wonder how long it will take until this technique is employed throughout the world? Will it even be employed at all?

Im not sure if this same mathematical formula will be able to be used all over the world, since the scientists were using quakes from the Iberian Peninsula.

It does really seem too good to be true. The article is a bit limited and also says the research will be published later this month by the journal Expert Systems with Applications. Hopefully once the researched is published in the journal, mainstream media will pick it up.
