Kenya gay activist criticises Odinga crackdown threat

A gay rights activist has criticised Kenya's prime minister for threatening a crackdown on homosexual people.

David Kuria from the Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya told the BBC that Raila Odinga's comments would encourage people to extort money from gay and lesbian people.

On Sunday, Mr Odinga warned that men or women found engaging in homosexual acts would be arrested.

It was believed to be the first time he has made such comments.

Im not gay but have many gay and lesbians in my life. There just people making there way in life. Many have had a hard life, and life just doesn't seem to be getting any easier for them.

Why do we continue to vilify and persecute those that do not conform to our values?

Arrested for doing adult things with consenting adults in your own bedroom is a scary thought.

Considering that Odinga is Obama's cousin. Considering that, when Obama was a US Senator, Obama ILLEGALLY campaigned for Odinga. Considering the connections Obama has with this guy ... perhaps someone should ask Obama what he thinks about it.

And people question why there are still gay pride events. Obviously much of the world is still a backwater of prejudice and ignorance. My heart goes out to those people who face such hateful policies and beliefs as part of everyday life. The struggle is a long way from being over.
