A powerful Democratic senator, pointing the finger at cable news for a politically toxic climate in Washington, unleashed a stunning tirade in which he expressed his desire to see the Federal Communications Commission shut down Fox News and MSNBC.
"I'm tired of the right and the left," West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller said Wednesday during a Senate hearing on retransmission consent. "There's a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to Fox and to MSNBC, 'Out. Off. End. Goodbye.' "
Sen. Rockefeller, in a more rare and honest moment, says that he is tired of the Right and the Left and that we’d all be better off if the FCC would shut down Fox News and MSNBC. That’s interesting, because the FCC doesn’t have any jurisdiction over cable whatsoever. At least not yet.
Senator Jay Rockefeller “hungers” for quality news. He wants to get the FCC to tell Fox News and MSNBC “Goodbye!” He wants “slimmed down channel packages that better respect what we really want to watch.” Who the hell is he to say what we want to watch?
He failed to mention that both networks are cable television channels and the FCC has little if any regulatory power over their content. Millions of Americans have tuned out the false right-left paradigm of the corporate-dominated news channels in favor of alternative news sources on the internet. For the establishment, this trend is highly disturbing and must be turned back.
