I am a big fan of perpetuum motion devices, especially mechanical ones.

The Museum of Unworkable Devices has been a great source so far.

The oldest reports seems to be from India and Bavaria. The Indian astronomer Lalla described a self-rotating wheel in 748 CE. It seems there has been a "Magic Wheel" about 8th century in Bavaria.

Given the evidence that first wheeled vehicles appeared from the mid 4th millennium BCE and reports about Water Wheels date back to 2nd century BCE. I've been wondering if there is any info available on devices before Lalla (maybe from non-mainstream sources)?
