At least 83 foreign firms, including some that are owned by Middle Eastern governments, have given money to the fund the US Chamber of Commerce uses to pay for election ads, says a report at ThinkProgress.

"In addition to multinational members of the Chamber headquartered abroad (like BP, Shell Oil, and Siemens), a new ThinkProgress investigation has identified at least 83 other foreign companies that actively donate to the Chamber’s 501(c)(6)," Lee Fang reported.

Among the companies listed by ThinkProgress are a number of high-profile multinationals, including Paris-based insurer AXA, the Swiss bank Credit Suisse, London-based bank HSBC, and pharmaceutical firms Novartis (Switzerland) and Sanofi-Aventis (France).

Apparently, foreign governments are having a field day purchasing our elections and most likely to their own ends. We already know that our elected officials are going to sell out to the highest bidder and now we have evidence. With the SCOTUS ruling that corporations have the same Constitutional rights as individuals, things are only going to get worse.

These days, it seems as if the American people are last on the minds of government and this is why we are getting screwed, not because Congress is incompetent. In fact, they would love for you to think that incompetence is the reason that nothing is getting done in DC, however it's not that nothing is getting done, it is that nothing is getting done for you.

And i bet everyone of those foreign companies have a US subsidiary registered in Nevada or Delaware ECT ECT.
Most multinational companies are true multinationals and have separate subsidiaries in many countries.
BP America, Inc is a American company

And its not like guys like George Soros do not pump money into the other side.

By the way ThinkProgress is a left leaning front group funded by George Soros and a couple of mortgage billionaires Herbert and Marion Sandler

This is just disinformation by the democrats to counter the US Chamber of Commerce adds supporting the Republicans.

I don't see it as disinformation at all. When you have a company that is owned either in part or in majority by a foreign government and they are influencing government through contributions, then you have to question whether there may be a conflict of interest.

In fact, this is the exact thing that I was saying just after the legendary SCOTUS ruling that gave corporations the same rights as individuals. Because many corporations are multinationals and in part owned by foreign governments, we are basically extending our Constitutional protections to foreign countries and since our Constitutional only protects us from our own government itself, a government that intended to be of, by and for the American people, it is a clear conflict of interest.

No matter how you look at this, foreign governments or corporations should not be influencing our elections, regardless of whether they have a subsidiary here or not. Our founding fathers never intended anyoner other than American citizens to be protected under the Constitution, especially in matters that pertain to government mechanics.

Corporations by themselves, regardless of whether they are foreign owned or locally owned, already have a conflict of interest when they influence government and because they have more money and greater influence, they are always going to impede on the rights of the individual to have his say in the direction of this government. When you add to that foreign ownership, it makes it much worse.

Another reason why that was such a bad SCOTUS ruling and contradictory to the Constitution, is that almost every Corporation has some foreign ownership, to include foreign government and foreign entities aren't supposed to have any influence on our elections. It basically kills the idea of sovereignity and is contrary to not only the intentions of our founding fathers, but also the interests of Americans and our country as a whole.

I wish they would investigate the hundreds of thousands of dollars the Obama campaign got in 2008 from pre-paid credit cards.

I want all sides held accountable and to the same set of rules.
