Soooo, let us take a look at what a communist nation thinks about civilian militias. So, in this article he says his militias should be armed. Tell me, who is to decide who the militia is? The government? I find this article to be sorely lacking in information. What do you think?

Chavez: Civilian militia should be armed full-time

Snippet-

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Sunday that members of the country's civilian militia should be issued weapons to be armed and ready at all times.

The Bolivarian Militia is a force of volunteers ranging from students to retirees formed in recent years by Chavez, who says it is a crucial component of the nation's defenses.

Until now, members of the militia have regularly trained at weekend boot camps, but their guns have usually been locked away in military depots when not in use.

"Who has seen a militia without weapons?" Chavez said during his Sunday television and radio program. He said he was surprised when he met some militiamen standing guard recently and learned they had no guns.

Perhaps the Ecuadorian Coup attempt last week brought this issue further to the front for Chavez.

Sounds like hes moving toward the Swiss model.

venezuelanalysis.com is a cool site for anyone who is a Bolivarian Watcher.

I always thought the Swiss had it right. Non Interventionism and everyone being armed.

Been pushing this for the last several years.

So have many others.

Hmmmm, 14 million guns in only 6 months. Relative?

Just because he is a wacko, does not mean we do not have to pay attention to what is going on there.

And armed and educated populace will never have to face the sight of tyrany in today's world.

Chavez is right.

The US government HATES militias. They've been branding them as domestic terrorist organizations for a few years now, trying to convince the public that they are planning a hostile takeover, or some nonsense like that.

The swiss have a great way of going about things.

Everybody should be so lucky.

My definition of a militia.

A militia is the private individual that sees that governance is a responsibility not a vote that occurs every four or two years.

It is a lifelong commitment that is more important than your family or your job.

For if one is to give their offspring a government that is more tyrannical than was given to them, what is the purpose of everything else? It does not matter.

Thanks for the comment.

WOW, STFU.

I cannot believe you said I thought of him as a hero.

Is that the new technique? Projection?

I would have to agree, although I disagree that it's more important than my family. If I was to join a milita, it would be to protect my family.

There's serving your country, but first and foremost we must serve ourselves.

Edit to Add: On a funny note, if that had been a different thread, it could have been seen as a socialist statement
.

Yes, I have been told that before.

Here is my list.

God, Family, Community, Country.

My family and my God are the same. My community is more important than my country. My country is the end of the line.

That is just something that I have come up with. It works in my eyes.

Fair enough, that seems very reasonable in my eyes.

I'm not one of the God people, but to each his own on that one.

And I didn't want to imply you were a socialist or anything, having reading your posts that's certainly not the case from what I can gather.
