Net Neutrality Deal Collapses, Waxman Says

www.eweek.com

A lack of support from Repubicans made it impossible for the legislation to pass before Congress' mid-term elections, Waxman said. "With great regret, I must report that Ranking Member Barton has informed me that support for this legislation will not be forthcoming at this time," he said in a prepared statement. "This development is a loss for consumers and a gain only for the extremes. We need to break the deadlock on net neutrality so that we can focus on building the most open and robust Internet possible."

Personally, I believe that the anti net-neutrality people will be all about the intellectual copyright laws (RIAA and co.) to strengthen their resolve. While it's brewing, then the anti-terrorism (this one is broad) laws will gradually seep in with the pretense of "for your own protection".

With the majority of the world's Internet data being stored in the US with the exception of a few countries such as Japan who have their own thing going on, the majority of the world's Internet flow will be crippled by having the government control it. A solution will probably be migrating some of the data on other countries that are not covered by such restrictions (or at least a modifiable version of restrictions).
