Below is a running tally of campaign spending by interest groups. It shows Republicans outspending Democrats by nearly 2 to 1. This is all due to
the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court eight months ago, in which corporations were judged to have the same rights as individuals and
therefore could spend illimitable amounts to buy elections.
It's interesting to me that it appears to be labor unions that are the big donors to Democrats and corporations and other businesses to the
Republicans.

Modern campaigns have always been about cash. The Citizens United decision has only opened the floodgates for unlimited $ to be funneled into the
political process, whereas before there were some restrictions.
Insofar as the unions represent ordinary working people, I'm inclined to think their donations are not as insidious as those of big corporate
interests. But then that's my bias.
We shall see who will buy this coming November's elections.
Somehow I don't think this is what the founding fathers had in mind when they created our democracy.
