It started in Sept 1940 and lasted until May 1941, the blitz on England.

It got me thinking how we would cope with such an event happening today. Imagine for a moment, the town or city you live in having thousands of bombs being dropped at random around you. But life went on, people coped.

It kind of put this terrorist threat we face into perspective.

Please read the two links, I find it amazing that people can be so resilient even when all hell is breaking loose around you.

It is also very interesting to find out who will break or stand firm in periods like that.

Yeah, I guess we never know how we would have reacted.

I find this bit quite poignant,

"'One of the oddest things about our everyday life,' mused teacher Phyllis Warner some days after the first bombings, 'is its mixture of ruthless horror and everyday routine.

'I pick my way to work past the bomb craters and the shattered glass, and sit at my desk in a room with a large hole in the roof.

'Yet next to a house reduced to matchwood, housewives are giving prosaic orders to the baker and the milkman.

'I know that I'm a fool to go on sleeping in central London which gets plastered every night, but I feel that if others can stand it, so can I.'"

Star and Flag!

It really does help put things in a better perspective.

S + F

Remember them. They took a right pounding but never gave in. I don't think we can really understand what it was like.
