The Czech Republic has considered allowing North Korea to repay debts with tonnes of aphrodisiac ginseng roots, it has been revealed.

North Korea owes $10m (£6.4m) for trams and heavy machinery it received during eastern Europe's Soviet era.

Fellow ATS members can be the judge of this one from the nutty North Korean regime . At least its not fake Viagra I guess . ha
On a more series note I think that China and Russia have given up on even trying to get token repayments of Cold War era debts from
North Korea . North Korea is both ideologically and economically isolated something that isn't going to change in a hurry .

Hey, if they can barter, what is stopping us?

If nothing else, could this suggest a distrust in the global currency, cash-flow system?

I don't see anything nutty about this at all, I think it's pretty cool actually! It's like barter and trade in the old days, trading with actual commodities. There's a lot of use in Oriental medicine, it goes back thousands of years. A lot of the over-the-counter medications you find in stores today, are nothing more than natural herbs ground up and refined into a pill form.

I know they are not doing well economically, despite the lavish lifestyles of the elites, so this is a generous gesture from the Czech Republic - although it's only for 5% of the debt apparently.

Nothing on the person to person basis . Purely on a personal level I am a big fan of bartering and good will .

Not within the context of the story because the North Korean economy could not come up with the cash to repay the debt its bartering or nothing else really . North Korea doesn't export anything legal that would generate some income if you like . In a wider context yeah its not hard to understand why there would be considerable distrust of the state of the global economy right now .

Any feel good aspect to this story runs out pretty quickly because such is the state of North Korea that it can only muster enough materials to barter away five percent of the debt it owes in this case . It would be very difficult to say the least for the next leader of North Korea to move away from the cult of personalty to a kind of fascist regime like the one in China .

Panax ginseng is good for longevity,but Czech Republic won't agree maybe,because the consumption of Panax ginseng in Czech is really low,they don't need so much Panax ginseng .
