A Malaysian state is allowing people to use gold and silver coins at shops and restaurants to revive a practice from early Islamic societies, an official says.

Didn't someone call for an Islamic currency?

This could be the start.

Actually wouldn't mind it myself as it is gold and silver based so value fluctuates with metal prices. Our dollar only goes down
