Medford north is redwood country.
Is this signature precursor to an earthquake?

This is from Jan 1, 2010 to today. Notice that it is only showing 5000 out of 30333 epicenters. Looking at it from this perspective it is kinda scary.

Very cool! Looking at this, you can almost see the 'wave' resonating from the North down to the south and then back up again. I have had a working theory of this regarding the wave-like motions of these tremors.....perhaps it IS an actual wave? It has been theorized that there is a very large magma chamber under the PNW...maybe it is even bigger than they imagine and is tied into ALL the active volcanos and calderas along the West coast of Washington, Oregon and California (not just washington)?

I know that is a bit out there, and I'm not saying it is what I believe but I think as a theory it has some validity.

Well being that it is an area that the two crustal plates are grinding together,.
What is scary?

shouldn't we be more concerned if the movement stops?

For me, the concern is that it's not going away as I believe (maybe I am wrong) like it has in the past. In fact,I would say that it seems to be picking up some significant steam. It shouldn't be happening again for another what, eleven or twelve months?

Also, the fact that we have not had anything about 1.0 in the state of washington for several days and nothing signifcant for quite some time, added to this 'wave' of tremors make me just a little more on edge for a possible release.

It would be concerning to me if it did stop. Because it would leave that uneasy feeling of "something is about to happen".. But like all earthquakes nobody knows exactly when or where. It would be a little more concerning to me if these tremors moved at a faster rate northward.
Side note, these tremors moving northward remind of how I wake up every morning as I get out of bed. Feet hit the floor first then all my joints start "popping" up to my neck as I stretch..

So as the quakes eased off, the tremors spiked. Now the tremors have almost stopped and still now quakes. Our corner of the country is almost clear of any on the USGS map. You rarely ever see that.

I noticed Alaska had a bit of a swarm yesterday. Perhaps the pressure will be released up North....I don't know, but I think it's gonna give somewhere soon. I would not be AT ALL surprised to see at least a 6.0 somewhere between Southern Oregon and Alaksa in the next day or two, most likely nearer the coast of Washington.

Well the tremors seem to have stopped (0 recorded for today) and the micro quakes started up again last night here in the PNW after almost a week of nothing.

6.7 hours 121 epicenters. The tremors in the Seattle area look to be located right on the Seattle fault line.

I'm loving those time-lapsed maps. They make it very easy to see how these tremors are 'flowing'. I had seen the new cluster up my way again...then we had a couple of small quakes at about the same time, and now the tremors are gone again. There haven't been any located for a couple of days.

I'm begining to think of it as a very low on-going rumble that is reverberating back and forth....kinda like a shiver running up and down your spine. I think it's indicative of all the pent-up energy just waiting to burst free. still think that it is connected to the suspected magma chamber, which would ofcourse be tied into the cascade volcanic range, which just happens to sit on one of the biggest subduction zones on the planet.

I would REALLY like to see some sort of report come out of the PNSN about this. Is it 'normal' for there to be this much activity in between the 'official' tremors, or is it increasing? I've saved all my links, maybe this afternoon when I have some time I'll try and find a good email to send that question to. I'm sure there has to be several scientists following it, so someone has to know.

Yeah, I would say that it is definately still actively moving around.

I could hear the rumbling pretty good today from that direction this afternoon too.

I don't know, but this has been a wierd year so far!!
