Student Arrested At School Over Chicken Nuggets Shorewood High Student Arrested In March Jason Newton, WISN 12 News Anchor/Reporter

POSTED: 9:15 pm CDT July 19, 2010 UPDATED: 7:08 am CDT July 21, 2010

SHOREWOOD, Wis. -- A 15-year-old Shorewood teenager accused of stealing chicken nuggets will not face theft charges. Images: People Rally In Shorewood To Support Teen In Nugget Case In a news release from the Shorewood Police Department it was reported that Police Chief David Banaszynski and Shorewood High School Principal Matt Joynt have agreed that this matter does not need to go to court.
In March, Adam Hernandez was accused of stealing a chicken nugget lunch from the school cafeteria. According to police records, a cafeteria worker saw Hernandez with a lunch. She told police Hernandez did not pay for it and refused to after being asked.
The teen's sister and guardian told 12 News reporter Jason Newton there was a good reason for that. She said another student, who gets free lunch, gave the meal to her brother. "[The other student] was fasting for the month and he was not eating meat. So he offered his chicken nuggets to Adam," Ava Hernandez said.
The incident was reported to the school's assistant principal and the resource officer. The report showed that a second Shorewood squad was requested by the resource officer. "The fact that you needed two police officers to resolve a chicken nugget question is really a waste of community resources," Ava Hernandez said.

Is this how far the degradation of the school administration in this country has gone?. Can school administrators no longer do their jobs, and administrate, especially for such minor incidences?

There was not even a question of theft as the meal had been GIVEN to the student from a friend who was fasting and could not eat the nuggets in the first place.

Why is the first response to call the police? In my day IF there was really something wrong in this situation, one would have been given detention and made to pay the $2.60 and it would have ended there.

That's... There are no words to describe that. Arrested over chicken. Its not even worth the resources it would cost to investigate it. that is just ridiculous. if the chicken costs 3 bucks and the cop gets paid lets say the cop make minimum wage... Where I live that's 10.25... so the difference is 7.25 PLUS additional time for paper work and filing and the other cops that process the case.. Good work!! way to spend tax payers money

Why was this moved to Below top secret?

Does somebody claiming they are an alien trying to save us deserve to be in above top secret, while a real news story goes to below top secret?????

Because this is where those of us like to post who don't believe we are alien/ indigo/ or secret CIA...and we also can comment on news items just as well.
Besides..IMHO..it does belong here.

Aright, I guess so.

It is just kinda disappointing that my very first thread starter gets put where
it will not get the same amount of readership and comments as it would on above top secret.

Ahh well, HELLO BTS!!!

Ok, one has to ask (yet again) what the hell are in chicken nuggets? Really?

This ain't gold were talking about here, it's processed chicken breast meat.

How many stories does it take where the cops are called out on account of chicken nuggets for there to be an FDA probe into what the hell is in those things?

LMAO ...Maybe police forces across the country need to set up..

:Cue in Dragnet theme:..The poultry squad...

Police: Which way did the nugget bandit go madam?

Women: :sobbing: ..it was in my sons hand on minute, and then the next. What is this world coming to? :sob:

Police: Just the facts madam, these nugget addicts can be very dangerous. We need to apprehend the actor as quickly as possible, lest he strike again on some unsuspecting person.

I jest, but back on topic..

Does anybody else think the zero tolerance bull pockey introduced to the public and private school systems is part of some larger plan?

Do you think school admins are just getting lazy, and would rather have a one size fits all approach to student issues?

Maybe society has just become so litigious that the police are having to handle every little problem because we, as a society, cannot solve even the simplest of issues without government stepping in?
