Molten potassium chlorate is a strong oxidizing agent that reacts violently with sugar. Gummy bears have lots of sugar in them.

I do have a few things I could say but I can sum it up in 3 words. 'Google Mr. Wizard'

If those episodes do not make you want to learn about science.... well then there is very little else out there that would interest you.
