Seeing that the question "Why are edits dated?" was answered and that the points were made towards a timestamp and its benefits, it may be a good idea to add your thoughts/suggestions for the proper thread:

The time of edit can be set to show in the account settings...just place "r" without the quotation marks in the field for Date and Time Settings...


An edit to show that it works...

why not display the GMT timestamp - and let people who can do the simple maths calculated the offset - those who cannot - dont deserve to know when it was edited
