General Election Question

I've been contemplating the meaning of this systematic dismantling of America perpetrated by the US Congress, President and Supreme Court. Some rather obvious observations:

1. Obama and the democrats know they will begin to lose elections in 2010 and continue losses in 2012.

2. Obama realizes he's a 1-term president.

3. The Gulf Oil disaster has the potential to displace tens of millions of people from the Gulf states.

Q: What if a state actually CANNOT conduct a general election? Will the election be suspended? Would that allow Obama to serve beyond his 4-year term?
