From my local newspaper this morning...

LONDON - BP PLC is talking with Apache Corp. about possibly selling $18 billion worth of assets including a stake in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay oil field, The Sunday Times reported.

BP spokesman Robert Wine and Apache spokesman Bill Mintz both said their companies would not comment on "speculation."

The Sunday Times said Apache, based in Houston, was discussing the possibility of acquiring BP assets. The newspaper did not cite a source for its report.

Very interesting... and likely known about by the two companies since mid-June:[D3D7A697-A75D-4A6C-AEBD-434F298446D6]

Apache Corp.: Large open-market buy made by company C-Level Officers on Jun 14th, at trade price (US$95.34). Disclose date: Jun 16th. Read Full Report:

I tried to chase connections down the rabbit hole between the two companies and discovered that all the oil companies are so intertwined and incestuous that it would almost be more of a story if there weren't any connections and deals between the two.
