Defend Me

The smile upon your face reminds me of the child within,

before the innocence was tainted.

When I was a child, what little armor I had was removed,

and somebody took a stab at my heart.

I tried to make sense of it all these years,

yet all I seem to find, is a little boy with teary eyes.

~

I laid down my sword, put up my shield,

spent my days crawling around in dark cellars.

The arrival of you rose me from the dark,

brought me to the light.

You inspired me to live and fight another day.

A return to the classic story of Good & Evil.

~

Many had questioned, even so many had laughed.

But it was I who stood guard,

while soundly you slept.

I covered your ears when the Banshees would howl.

~

And so its by the hand I lead you.

Through the maze of golden streets

beyond those with empty smiles.

Keep walking, my son

for the time is short and Wizardry is rampant.

~

From the first moment I held you in my arms,

without even saying a word,

I heard you say,

Defend Me

Very lovely, very sad. There's an old saying that those who protect, are really the ones who need/want to be protected.

Indeed lady, without coming out and saying it, I pretty much disclosed a little bit of my past. I was hurt and many scoffed and ignored when I told them. Indirectly I tried reaching out, hoping someone would listen.

I did see that. Pain....difficult to forget.

I remain modest in the area of writing, I feel I am ok but not really all that good. I appreciate the compliment, and it does inspire me to write some more, putting myself out there can be a little intimidating but I suppose we all have to start somewhere don't we?

I enjoyed reading this. Writing/creativity is something I lack, so I admire those who have been blessed with this ability. I am impressed.
