My 14 year old cat, my first and last pet has died of heart failure. He was my best friend, nothing can replace him, he had a great and unique attitude, almost human. Please, how can i get over it, what helped you. RiP Bentley xxxxxx

Time helps some.

I wish I could tell you something that magically would make it better. Its been just a shade over a year since my pal of 20 years passed.

I still miss him every single day to tell you the truth.

Sorry to hear that. One of our cats died a few months ago; so I know what it's like. 14 years is a good lifetime for a cat.

You said it yourself, that "nothing can replace him", so don't try. Give the feelings you have now the time the deserve.

Bentley, although I never knew you I'm sure you were a great cat, RIP

My sincere condolences for your loss. My cat is getting on a bit and I dread the day he will pass as he is such a character. Just take it one day at a time and consider getting a new kitten...

I start to tear when I think of the day that will come when my best friend leaves me. I only hope that I don't leave him first..

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Keep him in your heart and remember the good times. There is another kitty soul out there waiting for your love, Bentley will understand.

My condolences. Only time heals sorrow. I agree nothing will replace Bentley, but in a while, when you are ready, it's a good idea to get another pet, whether it be a kitten or a puppy, then you have a new friend to fill the loneliness.

I am so deeply sorry. I lost my cat of 19 years on Father's day 2008, and I still weep uncontrollably sometimes. However, I have a bit of advise that could help, if you just believe. Take pictures around all his favorite spots, and look for orbs. I have a photo I took 2 days after her death, and an orb appeared near her favorite toy. I didn't know at the time it wasn't just an orb. I enlarged the orb and printed it on photo paper. One day my husband was looking at the photo, and he said " it's Kittie" I said I know, that's her, and he said "but no, look." I did, and oh my gosh, there she was. Translucient, but we can see all of her body, even her wiskers, and the orb was eminating out of the center of her body. I hope this brings you the peace it brought me. I know she's still alive in spirit and still playing with her toys. I just cry because I miss her so very much. Good luck to you. Also, I looked up animal memorial jewlery and I found a small silver heart charm that has a paw print on the front, a silver tear drop and, her birthstone. They engraved her name on the back for me. I will find the site if you'd like, it has helped through some ruff days. Just let me know, and I'll post the link.
Again, I am so truely sorry for your terrible loss.
All my love with many hugs, take care.

14 years is a good long run, what more could you ever want ?? No Regrets.

I'm sure if something happened to you, you would've wanted Bentley to go on and live happily, ... why shouldn't you do the same for him ??

I'm sure he's in cat heaven, eating birds, tearing the # out of furniture, and leaving you a big duece for you to clean up once you get there.

Thanks for your posts. My cat hated other cats, so i cant really get another one, it will make me feel as if im betraying him. Aaah human emotion is a sin and a blessing. He was a true character, giving a greeting meow everytime he came in. Love you Bentley xx

So sad....reminds me, three years ago, my pal Niko had to be put to sleep.

He made it to 16 (or 17?...was a rescue, so exact age unknown).

That is a hard decision, and I always wonder if I waited too long...after the bouts of incontinence and such, but then he'd seem to perk up a bit. Finally, it was obvious, when he just wouldn't get up to eat....

Now....I want to get another pet, but....I fear that he may outlive me!
Would have to be assured there'd be a good home available, just in case.....

Sorry for your loss our pets become part of us one of my worst moments was taking my dog to get put down and holding him as his heart stopped. I would advised getting rid of feeding bowls and toys etc as makes it harder to forget your routine with them, keep a photo by all means but all the other stuff has to go.

Oh, man, that's rough. I have a cat that's the sweetest most compassionate and most smartest cat I've ever had too .. (note I said ever had, because I've had others I've said the same thing about). While it might not feel like the right thing to do right now, like going out looking for another girlfriend or wife after having lost the last one, but in this situation it's the right thing to do, because .... there is another cat out there right now waiting for you, wanting you, needing you, ready for you. Allow yourself a little time to grieve, a few days, a week, but not too long, and then begin your search for the one that's waiting to be with you next .. because there's certainly another cat out there that would just love to be with you and have a chance to steal your heart away too. You'll know that when you find the one that's waiting for you, you'll know it instantly because they will let you know I'm the one.

I have a lovely orange tabby stray that I have been lately feeding free to a good home.

She is young and friendly and only eats six times a day, including twice between the hours of Midnight and 6:00 AM!

Free to a good home!

Hi! I am sorry to hear about your loss, pets are often nicer than relatives and spouces. You'll never forget your pet... Getting a new pet is not a replacement, your cat loved you and would not want to to feel alone and unhappy. I had a Cairn terrier mix breed that lasted 17 years, when he died so did my childhood. Twenty years later I have four Cairn terrier puppies ready to sell this weekend. Life seems to go in cycles. Rescuing a cat from the shelter might be a nice idea in your future, when you are ready.

We had a dog for one year. He was a shih-tsu. We adopted him from a family who couldn't keep him after burying his master, their father.

We brought him home to be brudders with our first dog. The way they'd circle me at treat time and zerk time lends memorable times of joy.

The new boy we brought home contracted lymphoma. Treatment only prolonged the inevitable, he was losing the battle.

He was only eight years-old when I held his paw as the vet administered the lethal dose that ended his suffering.

There is no fix to stop the pain of loss. Celebrate the life the two of you shared, and will share again.

My sincerest condolences.
