A man who claimed thousands of pounds in benefits for being "severely disabled" has been jailed after being seen taking part in a tough desert trek on national TV.
Amputee Karl Sacks, 48, was sentenced to 10 weeks on Monday after his scam was uncovered following his appearance on the BBC2 show Beyond Boundaries. The dad-of-three, who pleaded guilty to five counts of benefit fraud totaling more than £40,000, was involved in a coast-to-coast trek across Nicaragua in 2005. Those taking part had to abseil, climb and sail across 220 miles of swamps, lakes, desert and jungle.
