Navy beam weapon detonates explosives from a distance

Other IED neutralizers just aim to short out the electronics or jam command signals - this one actually goes for the explosives - and it's not limited to IEDs:

It sounds fairly big at the moment, but a small version would be the ultimate defence against missiles etc, being able to set them off before they impact. Like an anti-missile laser, except you don't have to wait several seconds for it to work.

Thats no secret, though this is a good thread. They have been using them on jeeps for a while, with a huge laser command station in the back. They are primarily for IED's but this video I've seen shows it cutting through steel, making them also effective against tanks. Once I find the video I will post.

There are also laser defense systems in particularly the US and Israel that are used to shoot down mostly mortars, but also small missiles.

And we also have the new combat ready YAL-1 Airborn Laser Missile Defense System which is made primarily for shooting down ballistic missiles.

But with the accuracy and distance of lasers, you can be sure they can and eventually will be used for more than defense.

Thids device has the potential to disarm whole regiments!
The possiblities are overwhelming...
Imagine twenty blackhawks in optimum formation, all blasting out this wave of energy which detonates every weapon it encounters!Including all ammunition stores and ancilliary fuses etc...
Aliteral wave that having passed leaves a smoking ruin of totally useless weapons.....
Sound too far fetched?
Imagine the next step....humanity could step up to a whole new concept in weaponry, or suffer the ignominy of defeat....and subjugation...
These new weapons would be probably particle beam or laser type...
We could buld a gate which would explode any would be highjackers pants before he boarded the flight!
Screening might get a tad messy at times but if we send people down an enclosed bomb proof hallway to walk under the beam....the mess could be contained...
It certainly would make great area defence against suicide bombers too!
Just enclose the whole area in a field and nobody could get close enough to do damage before they ....discomboomulated....

The ability to detonate weapons in situ has been around a while. If there was a WW3 a lot of depots would suddenly pop before any attacks began.

Scary when you think about it.

Also, remember that any nuclear weapon relies on high explosive to trigger it - so any nuclear warhead can be taken out at a distance by the beam. Awesome.

This is why rail guns are also being made. Nothing says &^%$ you to a laser like spitting metal.
