I always hear in commericals that the money is for college concerning joining the military. That's in the media nonetheless. But what if you just want the money if you choose to serve... does the military give you money that doesn't have to go toward college? If so, how much vs money for college?

I'm guessing you are talking about the GI Bill. If so then that money can only be used for college.

Now... some MOS's in the military do give a signing bonus. The amount of the bonus changes constantly, and not all jobs will offer one. The money you get from a bonus is yours to do as you please.

Hopefully this answers your question...
