I've never had much of an interest in the Masons. But today, I went to the cemetery to read, and instead got sidetracked by the Masonic section of the cemetery. I tried googling Masonic symbols and was surprised to find not much, and what I did find was contradictory. That might be explained by the Wiki entry, which stated that Masonic symbols do not have universal (within Masonry) meanings. Anyway, maybe some of you can shed light on what I found.

What sidetracked me in the first place was the raised section of ground and this monument:

There is a Masonic cemetery in downtown Sacramento. Also, I think there is one in Citrus Heights area.

Ok, as I was saying, this is what got my attention in the first place:

The birds are no respecters of such things:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/799bc4a4352b.jpg[/atsimg]

A pentagon within a pentagram:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/934af193ad34.jpg[/atsimg]

And another:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/3ea186720dfe.jpg[/atsimg]

And yet another. Its layers remind me of the Pentagon building. Hard to believe it's a coincidence:

A pentagram on a crown:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/da1b167cb0d9.jpg[/atsimg]

And one with a hammer:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/9c7d6a1605c8.jpg[/atsimg]

No doubt the colors are symbolic also:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/a3ab79d3b504.jpg[/atsimg]

Is this a shoe print?

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/3f63c9419a05.jpg[/atsimg]

This was the only upright pentagram I found. Unfortunately, I became distracted by the cigar butt and forgot to take a closeup. It could be military?

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/3937e75e62a6.jpg[/atsimg]

There were a few of these. Spear?

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/47f2d5e3ca2f.jpg[/atsimg]

Wow? Or is it "mom" upside down? A hammer and an ax on what looks like a tree stump:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/610c16d8a995.jpg[/atsimg]

A maltese cross:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/ba79e859f6e8.jpg[/atsimg]

Odd symbols left and right:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/3a1d6dc814ad.jpg[/atsimg]

On the left, FLT. It's not his initials:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/dbb7f9b07d8e.jpg[/atsimg]

And on the right, a lot of symbols. I see 3 chain links, an "R", a bird (of prey?), and several pentagrams:

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/c7cc479aebb2.jpg[/atsimg]

Is there a connection between Masons and UFOs?

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/bc2c53744a13.jpg[/atsimg]

Sorry, I couldn't resist that last one.
So what do you guys make of these?

Cool pictures. I know that the symbol on all the female graves belongs to the Eastern Star. Basically the woman of masons.

No kidding. When I first saw the "book" with the pentagram, all I could think of was the cover of Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible. After a while, the shock value sort of wore off.

I think the symbol on the left is a U.S. Marshal badge or could mean a police officer, I could be wrong tho.

The symbol on right is the double headed phoenix or eagle.

Not all symbols are meant for all people, it is only important to the people represented. Easter Star, Masons, Shriners, Scottish Right, Yorkish Rite, some military and veteran stuff.

These are tombstones, these are revered and honorable people and symbols.

If you truly want to know more, join the Masons. Nothing nefarious, just some well respected dead folks that chose to be known by their affiliations in life, may they rest in peace.

yeah it is satanic to not be holistic but hellenistic with holistic ways; thats all i see here. very ugly; and for all of these pictures they are the testament of ones act of death.

So you're suggesting that I shouldn't be curious unless I want to join the Masons? That doesn't make sense to me. There was no disrespect intended--photographing gravestones is extremely common.

Something that occurred to me as I was leaving the cemetery--the non-Masonic parts of the cemetery contained much larger, elaborate, upright markers. Those in the Masons' section were small, modest, flat-lying and inconspicuous, except for the central monument, which can't be missed.

And it occurred to me that their cemetery mirrors the Masons in life--in just about any town large or small, you'll find a stately building, the Masonic Temple, plain to see; but the members themselves are inconspicuous.

ok.

WOW

Old pseudo-masonic group of Insurance agents I believe.

FTL (Friendship, Love and Truth ) Odd Fellows. pseudo masonic.

the star is eastern star. My grandmother was one. The points represent 5 Biblical Heroines. I dont know much more. I'm a mason. Not ES. The letters that should surround this are F.A.T.A.L. : Fairest Among Thousands, Altogether Lovely

The "arrow". No idea.

Nothing weird here.

This makes no sense at all. Would you mind explaining? You totally lost me friend.

There are lots of upside pentagram; hence they appear to be Satanic. And if Freemasons were among the U.S. Founding Fathers, would that make America, well, Satanic, too?

Are you trying to tell me this isn't the gateway to hell? Oh darn!

It's all a little weird if you're not a Mason. Any idea on the WOW/MOM tree stump thing?

Edit: I just realized you answered that. Sorry and thanks!

The star is a symbol of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Maltese cross is a symbol used in the Masonic Knights Templar, I've seen the Crown used in the Daughters of the Nile, but it also could be Amaranth.

Very cool photos. Thanks for posting. S&F.

The first photo is superb! Wow. Be interesting to hear other Masons takes on these pics and what they symbolise.
