It's probably fair to say that neither the Sunday, nor the Daily, Mirror is the acme of British journalism.
This story certainly isn't being covered elsewhere in the British Sunday's (largely silly season no-stories).
The link wasn't active for me but just click on "News" cyberchums.
It's all very iffy : no names and no evidence as the Iraqis were apparently told to stop being silly and go back to Iraq.

Since the news of surrendering Iraqis during the First Gulf War, I would've been expecting a lot of surrenders for this war too...

...But I never expected to hear of Iraqis surrendering *before* the war starts! Real good army you have there, Sodamn Insane...Shows us how well you breed loyalty among your troops!


...It's pretty sad to know that Sodamn Insane can't even keep his troops from surrendering because they already *know* that they'll be treated better as POW's than they would be treated as loyal soldiers...

The late news last night reported that Iraqi soldiers came foward to surrender when they saw American soldiers scouting in the DMZ between Kuwait & Iraq.

It was also reported that the American engineers have begun to level the earthworks and trenches for the allied armour advancement.

The Iraqi soldiers in forward positions were probably alerted that the fence has been cut in preparation of the blitz & to be on high alert.

The U.S. soldiers must have been laughing when the Iraqi's tried to surrender. I can imagine Saddam wanting the names of every troop along the front line so he could call them with threats of the death penalty for surrendering.....lol

That would probably typify or undermine the mentality and resolve of Saddam's troops in general. I suspect that the rank & file, including the Republican Guard must know that this whole game is soon to be over and survival being the prime human instinct, are ready to surrender at the first opportunity.
