I am an addict. Can I be helped?

OK, I admit I am an addict. I am not proud of it, but is it possible to help addicts like me?

Suffering from this addiction is extremely difficult and can be physically debilitating. Sufferers are by the nature of the addiction secretive and lonely people who spend much of their lives hunched up in corners suffering the afflictions that the addiction brings.

There are no known help groups for people like me as far as I am aware, and most sufferers would not travel to them anyway as it would be too long away from their supply.

This addiction causes great stress, not only to me and fellow sufferers in the form of severe anxiety and paranoia, but can spill over to affect family and friends. In severe cases the suffers can, I understand, be shunned by their closest potential supporters (family and friends) and this is the situation that I feel is the most difficult aspect of this addiction.

Another disconcerting aspect of this is that whilst 'getting a fix' there is an extreme effect of time compression. It amazes me how it is possible that partaking of a simple short fix can compress many many hours into minutes.

Ultimately the addiction in it's more advanced stages can cause pains in the legs, and even DVT, from long periods of inactivity, blurring of vision and lack of nutrition as the addiction dulls the appetite, yet heightens the craving for other stimulants such and caffeine, and for the seriously afflicted who are smokers can increase the intake of nicotine dramatically. The cause of this is undoubtedly the feeling of immense frustration about everything that is a side effect of the addiction.

Can anyone help? Is there a cure? Is it possible to be weaned off the seriously addictive drug ATS?

Anything is possible as long as you are ready to quit and have made your mind up.

Good luck

Is this meant in jest? If so, sense of humor failure.

From my experiences in 12 step programs, addiction is not that funny.

Unless your life has become unmanageable it could merely be fascination, infatuation, curiosity or simply a hobby of interest. In a word.....semantics.

If you want to quit something just quit. I'm a x alcoholic. All I can think about most the time is getting #ed up! But I must over power it. The bottle and drugs are the devil. They will eat your soul and life.

I found the best things to do for addictions are spiritual things, this is where the health service goes wrong.

People get depressed over lack of spiritual stuff in there lifes and its very true, and a lack of focus on something.

To break any habit you need a focus that it is not, and something uplifting, like the spiritual.

Do not expect the health service to give you these answers though, they will most likely make stuff up to destroy you further.

In jest, yes kind of.

Sense of humour failure? No not really. That I think is your department.

You are not alone my friend.

I too suffer an addiction to ATS. I don't know if I would call it an addiction to ATS as much as an addiction to the internet. But that just stems from absolute bordem since I am a serious loner.

ATS is just a place where people with common ideals come to share their views with other like minded people in a calm, engaging and educational atmosphere. If being addicted to learning and denying ignorance is bad, I don't want to know what is good.

This is what I want you to do baby....but none of it will be easy !!

I know this is scary, but look outside the window...don't be afraid...

You'll see some VERY scary things, but take a deep breath yeah ??
Now those strange lil creatures that are walking past your house are called "real" people and outside is what these "real" people call the "real world"
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh !!.......

You have to be strong, be brave baby, and ( I know this is soooo hard ) you have to click on that " log out " button and face those scary demons head on !!
Yes, the cure for your addiction is to GO OUT !!

Hey, this thread was tongue in cheek I hope, well that's how I read it anyway !! Pleeeease tell me it was !!

I hear ya - I was addicted to another site on the web - I knew it was bad for me but I spent hours on end there. I had found the cure - I deleted my profile - and then I found ATS so I am fine now - no longer addicted - I think :bash:
