Lunar Solar Power Generation -LUNA RING

www.shimz.co.jp

The Energy Paradigm Shift Opens the Door to a Sustainable Society.

A shift from economical use of limited resources to the unlimited use of clean energy is the ultimate dream of all mankind.

The LUNA RING, our lunar solar power generation concept, translates this dream into reality through ingenious ideas coupled with advanced space technologies.

Virtually inexhaustible, nonpolluting solar energy is the ultimate source of green energy that brings prosperity to nature as well as our live.

I don't know if someone post info about this company before, but I know many (including me) didn't know it. I read it in AOL this morning.

From AOL : The plan is to use robots assembled in space to build a 6,800-mile-long ring of solar panels around the moon's equator that would collect solar energy that could be beamed back to Earth in the form of powerful microwaves shot by antennae 20km in diameter.
------------------------------------------

Not only that, they have a bunch of crazy (in a good way), projects :

TRY 2004 The "Pyramid City in the Air" Concept.

Inter Cell City.

Space Hotel -Space Tourism.

Lunar Bases -Construction on The Moon.

Very bad idea at this time.. for two reasons.

1, It's very expensive to maintain a system to transfer that power.

2. Micrometeorites. We do not have solar panels that would withstand attacks from these tiny projectiles hitting the solar panels at top speeds without an atmosphere to slow them down. Having to maintain and replace these panels all the time will be very expensive.

It's not do-able in out time with our present level of technology.

Edit: I will say it's a Great idea.. and I wish they could pull it off, but until they can answer those issues, they haven't got a prayer.

It will hang like the Sword of Damocles over the heads of all those who dare oppose the Japanese Emperor.

*P.S.

Truman, there is a thread on this already- maybe more than one.

Thanks for making the effort and taking the time though. It is always appreciated.

Better luck next time eh!

If this company can provide a working model of thier energy transmission apperatus, and also prove that the microwaves will NEVER go off target a cook some poor soul, or damage the ozone layer, or any such thing, then perhaps this would be fantastic!
